One shot - round went clear through the deer. Quartering toward me. Shredded the upper portion of the heart. He ran about 20 yards and dropped.

Entrance wound wasn't obvious, exit wound about double 223.

I have it on high authority

from the most accomplished true outdoorsman and lifelong Texas deer hunter that I know, that a 223 out of a mini 14 drops South Texas deer much quicker than a 30-30.

I was quite impressed. I didn't know how I could

Have missed and spun around to take a second shot when he did a somersault and dropped dead. My 30-06 never did any better.

I'll have to try some of that...

The Barnes Vortex 55 grain shots ok in my AR, the Winchester Razorback shoots extremely well. Haven't hunted with it yet but it's gonna happen.

Hey, you can't end this story here:)

Good shooting!

I ran the 65 grain Sierra about 2850 from a late model Mini 14 and got complete penetration on a shoulder shot and good results and nearly 170 yards. This one made it just about 20 yards as well.
