Lame-brain fart-storm....Monday maundering

Sooo. I have this nearly unfired Security Six that shoots just fine. BUT, can a gun loony stop from improving good to nut-bar idea? Nope.... any idea IF a Security Six has enough meat to go .45 Colt? Almost certain it is "no", but what a rugged six-shooter that would make.
Thanks for indulging my weekly work-start avoidance [I've already cleaned up shop and sorted tools!], and swear to fore-by for at least five-ten minutes, anyway...

Note to self: No posting here until after second pot of coffee wears off,
I think they've been converted to .41 Special.

I love the Six-series guns. I have to exercise will power when one crosses my path in search of a new home.

Y'r right about 'Six's.. they are in their own category --

The one I stumbled over is smoothing out very nicely. The trigger pull is a bit different, but dry firing daily is taking care of that 'familiarization'. What prompted the ".45 Colt" pre-brain-in-function was the idea of a 4" SS version of the gun, to go with a .45C Marlin. Have a similar set in .357, and so far as reloading -- .45 C is the 'other' caliber on the bench. After the so-called Holidays, a .45 Colt older Marlin rifle, is on the 'hunt' list. It'll need a 'simply rugged' revolver , y-see. Gotta plan these things. Nice sets to bequeath to family, as well.
Wishing you a busy and happy season in the shop, and at least ONE 'cannot turn it down's" coming in y'r door.

Worked great BTW. I wouldn't mind finding a Redhawk in .45 one of these days...
Beyond the 25-5
by BC, Brrrr!, Tuesday, November 18, 2014, 11:32 (3663 days ago) @ Rob Leahy
My 25-5 is a keeper. Maybe my primary keeper, "grail" guns aside.
Mine's been carried, camped, packed, and shot so much that it feels like part of my hand. The Fishpaw stocks help in that regard.
Anyway, its real beauty is in its utility, rather than in its somewhat anonymous 80s styling.
There are a few worthwhile post 25-5 S&Ws to consider if you are looking for a .45 Colt. Some are on the pricier side, but with the ever increasing prices of 25-5s, one can, with a bit of savvy and good fortune, land an unusual late model "lunker".
The 25-7 and 25-9 are updates of the -5. Endurance Package are the primary difference, but they were also offered with the ever popular 5" bbl. the -7 came with a matte finish and I fluted cylinder, and, unfortunately, a somewhat short front sight. The -9 offered the standard high gloss finish.
The 25-11 and 25-13 were limited production revolvers and part of, or forebears of, the "Heritage" series guns. Thin pre-war type barrels, round butts, and fancy finishes. The Turnbull case hardening is polarizing among those who pay attention. Great shooters and light on the belt.
In stainless, and beyond the Mointain Gun, S&W offered a 5" under lugged version called the 625-5 "Classic". Great shooters, and arguably an ideal hunting revolver with the right balance of weight/length.
Finally, the 26-1, which was a commemorative model for the GA State Police. 5" thin tapered barrel, smooth narrow trigger, football-profile hammer, and lanyard swivel. Sort of a modern version of yesteryear's "ideal" patrol sidearm, plus a bit of bling on the sideplate. 80s era, so somewhat blocky smooth magma grips, but overall a superb sixgun once the internals are goosed.
There were obviously other late model choices, but my taste goes to these more than the "hunter" styled revolvers and scandium type guns.
Any of these would be a fine choice, but few are truly bargain priced unless you consider value and potential resale.
Sorry to blather on. These are favorites of mine.
I forgot about the 625-7, the Lew Horton 3"

Neat gun, if you can find one. Have a fork for handing over your $$$.

John:
Find a 5-1/2 inch Redhawk rather than trying to stuff 5 pounds of sausage into a 3-pound sack. I have one in .41 Magnum and it's really the perfect .41 Magnum revolver.

Thanks for assembled suggestions...

Some of my local friends consider me to 'know a lot about guns'. My reply is something like this: "Thanks for thinking that, but the fact is, I just have known a fair bunch of folks -- who actually do know 'a whole lot about guns'."
There's enough leads and suggestion here, to keep me busy.45'ing until early spring. deciding on the specs and the model. I am tending toward a shorter bbl, and lighter weight, as the .45 Rifle carries the 'distance'. However, I've learned, never say never in this biz. Chances are that chance will dictate the right piece at the right time. And I'll know it then, because of info y'all have started me with here.
In meantime, happy hunting...and stay warm. We're chill-factored at Zero tonight, and even the Chessies are happy to snuggle in 'til morning. Tho', the 10 mo-old young female is having a fine time being an indoor mouser, as the little varmints come into our old country store building, to exscape the cold. Trots 'em over to me, proud as cat...
Think I'll go review the closet herd before bedtime..ya know...just in case a little oil or wax needs to be applied, or sights need to be checked to make sure they still align,
