Thought I would work on my grinding skill using some thicker steel, 3/16" 1095 in this case. It takes a little bit of time just to grind out the basic blank shape and messy as hell, even with the 6hp suction system running under the platen of the grinder.
The basic grinding is not to bad, it's the finer details like the plunge line that are really giving me fits, just takes practice. I dug out some old Brazilian Rosewood slabs and made a set of handles out of it. Still have some work to do on it but it is coming along nicely.

I assume "plunge line" is the vertical transition from blade to spine(?). I have always marveled at how that can be done so well. Keep up the good work.

The plunge line is the vertical shoulder just in front of the handles. It is the point that you "plunge" the blank against the grinding belt to start the grind then move toward the tip. Believe me it is a royal pain in the butt to get even, especially on the bottom at the edge and be consistent on both sides.
