A good buddy of mine retired from the Sheriff's department here recently. He and his wife purchased a home in Nashville (no specifics available) and he has moved there as of last weekend. I know he's a Yankee but I ask that you treat him nice anyway.

Any information regarding gun shops, reloading supplies, ranges and such will be appreciated and forwarded.

Thanks!

I lived in Nashville for about 10 years...

Lived in Donelson ("East Jesus"), Goodlettsville, off Granny White Pike in the Belmont area, 8th Avenue, also in the Sylvan Park area.

The three things I liked most about Nashville, in no particular order:

Nashville Sounds Baseball ( I use to work for the Sounds back when Schmittou owned them and they were affilitated with the Yankees, had a beer with Steinbrenner)

Saturday night stock car races at the old fairgrounds( I use to sell beer at the races, made some pretty good extra cash, when Bobby Allison was in town to race, he'd take some of us to Lucky's after the races for burgers)

Prince's Hot Chicken Shack.

As far as "gun" stuff, back when I lived there it was dismal at best, probably different now. Got run out of there about twenty years ago, it got too expensive, and too tough to hustle a buck. Also, I like country music alright, but the constant drumming, everywhere you go, was mind-numbing.

It's an OK place though.

We work in Nashville but can't afford to live there in a

Decent neighborhood.

Neither could I...

The first two years I lived there my wife, daughter and I lived in a one bedroom "apartment" in the attic of some old lady's house off Belmont Boulevard. When I started with the state I made less the $800 a month, so I worked two and sometimes three jobs for years.
Over the ten years, the rents kept going up, so we had to keep moving, I bet we lived in eight different places while we were there. finally gave up and moved up this way. Should've done it earlier.
Now, I only have to work one job.

Between me, my dad (stonewalrus) and catoosa we can point him in the right direction. My personal favorite gun shop is Specialty Arms, usually have the best prices there. If you want to handle guns the Franklin Gunshop usually has the widest selection so you can compare different models but prices are high. It really depends what area he is in, as far as ranges go and what he intends to shoot (most are indoor and only allow handguns).

Hoot, your buddy won't be the only yankee refugee around here. Some even came during "de wah" and never left. We have "galvanized" most of them to where you can hardly tell they ain't from around here.

Stonewalrus is from Missouri, and one of his ancestors fit on the yankee side. That feller and my great grandpa may have even shot at each other at Chickamauga - as near as we can figure they were in about the same place on the second day, on opposite sides of the battle line. Don't matter none now - me and Stonewalrus is best buddies.

Hoot are you and Miss Melodie going to come to CSA in Alabama? If so, I will pass on some contact info for your friend.

I've heard about a new range open south of town, Franklin maybe, suposed to be VERY nice. Pistol, shotgun and rifle ranges, 50-100-200 to 1,200yd.

If he like LR Rifle shooting, look up Mid-south Marksmen on the web. I shoot F Class with them, but they also have XTC. We shoot at an Air Force Engineering/training base about an hour east of N'ville.

Guns and Leather in Greenbrier (Robertson County) is decent. As Stonewolf said, Specialty Arms in LaVergne is good. Prices at Academy Sports and Basspro are generally not bad. Outpost Armory out of Murfreesboro has a lot but they think highly of their guns. Is he going to live in Nashville proper or in the outskirts?

Decent local gun site to get some info: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/

Nashville Armory, some gun dealer in Lebanon, Guns and Leather (Greenbrier, Everything weapons (Franklin)have indoor ranges

Gallatin Gun Club (Gallatin), Maury County Gun Club (Columbia), Charlie Haffner Memorial Range (Spring Hill), Strategic Edge (Chapel Hill) and something in Dickson (pistol competion matches ONLY (IDPA ???).

See the Competition section of that web site above for more info.

Lot of folks use Reloaders Bench at Mt Juliet for supplies.

TN deer ain't big Northern Whietails.

Many satellite cite would be better place to live than Nashville proper, but then that is just an Opinion

The Lebanon one is called the Gun Room

This is a relative new range, supposed to be pretty nice.

Strategic Edge
2613 HWY 270
Chapel Hill TN
www.Strategic Edge.us

The other range is the Tennessee Army National Guard Training site located on Arnold Engineering Development Center at Manchester/Tullahoma. 100-1000 yard KD range though they typically shoot matches 100-600 yards Or at least they did.

It is available only during official matches.

There are a couple of other ranges east of Manchester and again they are listed on that web site in my other post.

Thanks fellas!

I will pass on your suggestions, opinions and observations.

I don't have a location yet but I will ask. If I were to guess, knowing his preferences, I'd say it was a good bet it's not 'inner city' but, beyond that I can't say.

I do appreciate the help.

Hey Hoot

Tell your buddy to check out Lebanon. +-35 miles east of Nashville, a whole world away in quality of life issues. West Wilson County is Nashville yuppie suburbs, east of Lebanon is redneck heaven. He can take his choice.

Thank you.

He and his wife bought their house 3 years ago. It's just that I don't know where it is. They both are the type to have thoroughly researched their decision so my guess is that they have found a nice place.

BTW....sent you an e-mail to feegrabber....

Ashland City Armory is supposed to be nice

by stonewalrus, Thursday, October 09, 2014, 10:04 (3639 days ago) @ Hoot

Even has simulation stuff with AR15 and Glock. I haven't been because it is hard to get there from where I live.
