If you're going to shoot from a bench, or prone
If you're going to shoot from a bench, or prone, a heavy barrel makes sense. However, I use the lightest weight barrels I can get when I plan to shoot while standing on my hind legs. A lot really depends on what you want to use the rifle for. DCM matches would suggest a heavier, match grade barrel, while 3 Gun leads me to lighter, shorter rifles. To be honest, I don't think there is such a thing as "one" black rifle. Most guys I know (myself included) have several different ones. A second AR is apositive symptom of the dreaded "black rifle" disease, for which there is no known cure. Besides, they're like Barbie dolls for guys. You can dress them up any way you want.
