Neat find, an old King Super Target.
Maybe clamp a Tasco Pro Point to that rib.

I don't see much else that it is useful for.
Slick! That is just slightly less cool than the 6 inch Charter Bulldog .357 I'm waiting on.
That is great! Has it been slicked up yet?

Rob, that's a classic pre-war custom sixgun. It needs to be left in its customized state. Those King custom guns are prized over on the S&W forum. If it only had Roper grips. I hear there's a guy who could make a classic pre war holster for it.

Tip-toeing out on a limb here, but I believe that it is an early post-war M&P. The ejector rod is straight, and I'll even venture to guess the serial number begins with an "S".

I missed the ejector rod, I was focused on the hammer.

Those stocks look like Shooting Stars that have been "smoothed" somewhat, which is the best thing you can do with Shooting Stars, IMHO. They look pretty good now, although they are likely of later vintage than the gun.
I'll bet that trigger is slicker than owl snot.....shoot it and let us know!
Actually, you should...

cut that barrel back to even with the ejector rod, chrome plate it, take off those grips, fit it up to wear a set of Uncle Mike's Boot Grips and carry it in the appendix position in one of these:

That should get you set up proper.
Actually, paint me - that's a sweet looking sixgun!

that I'm going to the gun closet with a hacksaw and silver spray paint right now. The last gunshow had a whole table of dump bins with those fine nylon rigs, too. They fit ANYTHING, so conveniently. Thanks for the fine advice. Will post pictures on FB, to show the technique. Hopefully many people will send me those old pistols for updating. then I can tell them it's too much trouble, but I have some fine South American, Spanish & Turkish revolvers that'll be a much better gun for their needs. If you want a percentage, just let me know. Good people should share, y'know?

Traded gunleather for an old M&P, should I take the add on's

By coincident I took my 5" 1931 M&P to the range this morning to shoot along side my Combat Masterpiece. The M&P shot groups slightly tighter, so these handguns will shoot and shoot well. The M&P sights make things more difficult, but they can be managed.
I would never have done to that M&P what was done to it, but I would not remove the rib and sights as they can only make it easier to hit with. The extra weight on the barrel will also be a help.
Beside, it looks like they milled a groove in the top of the frame for the rib and rear sight. Take it off and you won't have anything worth shooting. So, I vote to leave it on.
The only thing that will get done to it is a pile of 148HBWC
by Rob Leahy , Prescott, Arizona, Saturday, June 28, 2014, 17:10 (3806 days ago) @ Charles
will get shot through it.
