What are your thoughts on XDs-45?

I have one - it is one of my regular carry guns

by cubrock, Sunday, June 08, 2014, 13:10 (3763 days ago) @ rob

Mine is very accurate and easy to shoot. My first time out with it I kept all shots in one ragged hole with my carry ammo at 7 yards and it shot almost dead on for point of aim. That same day, I took it through a shoot house on a PD range and the officer I was with and I were both able to score near 100% shots on steel popper targets with it after the second run through with instinctive shooting. It pointed extremely well for both of us. Recoil is very manageable. It carries easily. It has not replaced my 1911 nor my J-frame for carry where I prefer those, but it is the first carry gun to be added to the permanent rotation in years.

I've only heard great things so far...

I like mine, and carry it quite often. Too bad I am not in the Dallas area anymore or I would meet you at ASC and let you play with it.

Did y'all move again?

Yeah we bought a house and some more land in Rusk. I now have a shooting range in my back yard, and the last week or so hogs have been tearing it up. If I ever get back home I plan on a hog killin. We were tired of living in the city, and I wanted Jacob to grow up in the country.

Cool...

by rob @, Sunday, June 08, 2014, 19:56 (3763 days ago) @ Jared

That is our dream too. Really want at least 5 acres, 50 would be better but more work:).

Cool...

by Jared, Sunday, June 08, 2014, 20:02 (3763 days ago) @ rob

Yeah I hear that about the work. I have been gone a lot with my job, and trying to get moved and keep everything up has been time consuming to say the least.

I shot my nephew's the other day

by stonewalrus, Sunday, June 08, 2014, 15:29 (3763 days ago) @ rob

Had no problem busting clay targets set out at about 12 - 15 yards. Recoil wasn't bad for somebody who has done a fair amount of shooting, about like a Baby Glock 40. Not a beginner's gun but I liked it.

Very good gun

by Miles Fortis ⌂ @, CIVITATES AMERICAE, Sunday, June 08, 2014, 16:01 (3763 days ago) @ rob

In the test to select a certain unnamable unit's next service pistol, the XD only failed one test compared to the selected pistol.

And a significant number of users preferred the XD.

I know I do. The XD fits my hand better than the Glock, however your mileage may vary.

Oh, the test it didn't pass? Low temperature magazine release. As in -40F low temperature.

If that perameter is of no consequence to you, the XD will do whatever you need it to.

Very good gun

by rob @, Sunday, June 08, 2014, 17:25 (3763 days ago) @ Miles Fortis

I don't see how a Glock can fit anyone's hand personally. I had an XD-9 and a XD-45 Compact, both very good. Just checking though before I jump off the XDs cliff and choose the 45 over the 9mm. I already have a 938 so I really have the micro 9mm covered. Great input, thank you.

Owners love 'em and chafed at the bit waiting for

their recalled pistols to be returned. NONE complain about the guns. I think 2 have been returned because the owner traded them in for something that "fit his hand better." I don't think the recoil should be all that bad but some likely will.

The one I have stashed has a pinned grip safety so it's good to go...and the trigger is pretty sweet:)

by Jared, Sunday, June 08, 2014, 19:48 (3763 days ago) @ rob

He recoil isn't anything to worry with, it is way more controllable than a J from .357, probably closer to an Airweight with .38s or mild +P loads.the checkering is a little rough on sensitive hands but the recoil is fine.

by Art @, Littleton, Colorado, Sunday, June 08, 2014, 18:36 (3763 days ago) @ rob

I have the nine and think very highly of it. I have dumped my Sig 229 40 with the extra 357 barrel and now have the XDs and 226 in nine but I am thinking I might need a 45 also.

I've got a 226 and 938....

by rob @, Sunday, June 08, 2014, 18:48 (3763 days ago) @ Art

So have both ends of the 9mm spectrum covered. I think a small 45 would be nice and maybe a 5.25 XDm later on.

Decent little 45...

by Sarge ⌂ @, Central Misery, Sunday, June 08, 2014, 18:36 (3763 days ago) @ rob

Good pointing qualities, plenty accurate and easier to shoot well than a G27. That said, I would probably take a G30s over it but I'm used to Glocks. If you want something different that XDs is a good 45.

Decent little 45...

I like and recommend them.

Since the "updated" trigger, post recall, I'm less in love..

…than I was. I hate the new trigger. It's not horrible, it just seems the "work/break" is more towards the rear now than it originally was, which causes me to pull shots to one side.

I've posted this before. The long wait it me waiting on an airplane (range is next to an airport) and the distance was closer to 60 yards.

That's pretty good shooting....
