Otony, as far as I know there would be no issues with this, except that you would certainly want to retain the old flat latch to put back on the gun If you ever decide to sell it. I think the early flat latch guns are somewhat highly sought after, and of course original condition is a make-or-break factor to collectors.

Looking at three Js with the three types of latch here in front of me, the only thing I see is that the screw is smaller on the old flat latch, so you would need a new screw. As long as the shank and threads are the same, it should work.

Never found a problem with the flat latch myself. Wondering how come you want to replace it?
