Attended a great dinner tonight.....
The whole family just got back from a benefit dinner for the Wa-Hi (Walla Walla High School) JROTC. It was a very good turn out for a busy Mother's Day weekend. We met some impressive kids, and listened to several well presented speeches by a few of those same kids. They were clean, polite, and smartly dressed in their uniforms. It appeared that there were possibly more female cadets than male, and three of these beautiful young ladies sang the National Anthem in a most pleasing fashion, this after a great Presentation of the Colors by the drill team. All in all, a good evening.
The money raised was in support of the rifle programs that quite a few of these JROTC kids participate in, match level air rifle shoots with the high school sanctioned rifle team. And Wa-Hi is one of the few schools left in the USA that still has an actual smallbore .22 rifle target program. These kids are very well equipped, with the better shooters using Anschutz rifles and full shooting gear, jackets, pants, gloves, boots, and slings. From what was said during the presentations, it appears the ladies outshoot the men on a regular basis! Ah, small town America, gotta love it.
I donated a brick of .22 ammo and a new fishing reel for the dinners silent auction. The reel was/is worth four times the cost of the brick (at old pre-panic prices) but I'll leave it to your imaginations as to what brought a better price. Let's just say that there are going to be some very expensive holes made on targets tomorrow.
