Saw where you were messing with the 300 blackout......You are in a position with a lot of pesky things on your property to tell us what you think. From a hunting stand point med sized game down to small pesk.......What is your opinion as a hunting caliber....Fancy 30-30 ????

My opinion

Unless you are suppressing it, it's not all that. Just similar to a 7.62x39. If cannelured components were more available, I might like it better, but I have 223's that I love and an ar10 that is COOL. The 300 is just not fish or fowl for me. My upper is Noveske and quite accurate, if anyone is interested in buying it.

Did you ever try it out of a Contender pistol or carbine?

I wonder how it would do from that platform?

Thank you

I think it would do fine, but -

unless you're going to suppress it, still not a 30-30. My 8 year old shoots a 30-30 TC G2 Contender quite well, so what's the point?

Using 19.0 grains of H110 with a 110 grain bullet is what it really has going for it, unsuppressed.

I'm going to revisit the issue at some later date ... suppressed ... but for the time being, and setting it aside.

Pretty much the same conclusion...

I came to so I never bought one. The 223 shoots flatter and with premium bullets like a Barnes X or Barnes Vortex ammo, they are quite adept at hunting all manner of game and pest. I'm not 100% happy with my AR (I wouldn't mind upgrading my carbine upper to a rifle), but I have no qualms with the original 5.56/223 chamberings at all.

if you go back in history...

When I became old enough to buy my own guns things like the .30Herrett were the hot thing in Contenders. Well shortly after that I got involved in IHMSA and it was popular to open up the neck of a .223 case to .30 and shoot it out of a rebarrelled Remington XP100, that way you didn't have to mess with the bolt. A similar cartridge called the 7TCU came out in Contenders. So now 30+ years in the future, .30 cartridges based on the .223 case head diameter seem to be big news.

I have nothing against the cartridges and I think they are good options for AR platforms, again so you don't have to change bolt faces.

Thanks for the info.
