Took the Rossi lever action .357 to 200 yards ...

awhile ago. Hung a big 150oz detergent jug in front of a reversed B27 and let fly a couple of the 140 XTP's, over a max charge of W296. The rifle is zeroed to plant its shots in the middle a 3 pound coffee can lid at 100 yards. It shoots flatter at 200 than it has any right to. The first two shots were just off the edges...

and I hit it with the 3rd. But I just clipped the bottom edge so I don't have much of a ballistics report. But you could hear the impact from 200 yards and it shredded the plastic real good.

Interesting - good to know

I continue to be impressed with what a 357 carbine can do. I wish somebody would make one in a pump or semi auto.

the old Israeli Timberwolf 357 is a neat pump, kinda

Ballistics calculator indicates about 1240 fps at that distance, almost exactly what my old Lawman MKIII produces with the same load, at the muzzle. So I could probably get a fair estimate w/o straining my eyes;)

Neat, enjoying the reports...

Have been sharing them with my Dad, who has a 357 Rossi he has been playing with.

All I got is another peripheral hit...

But judging from the rips and holes above it, I don't want to catch an XTP at 200 yards.

Those windshield washer fluid jugs are TOUGH so if a peripheral hit did that damage it has more juice at 200 than I would have thought.

I have just found a club that has ranges out that far so if I can track it down and get my background check started I will try some distant shooting.

Wish Rossi would finally get my tang sight on its way.

May wear the gun out before they ever send the sight

Sarge, you are not helping to cool the flame.

I honestly don't know why I don't have a .357 carbine yet.

I took awhile....

getting on-board with the concept and if the ammo market hadn't tanked, I might never have tried it.

These Taurus-Rossi 357's are generating a lot of feeding complaints, usually because the cartridge starts into the chamber and get stuck. Sight dovetail dimensions are all over the place. They can be a PITA to work on, everything inside them is cast/MIM and Rossi is stingy with parts. I have this one working and am happy with it.

My suggestion to just get a Marlin.

I've never had a problem with feeding

But I did have to replace the sights to get something useable with enough adjustment.

I had mine at CSA - should have had you try it

I have tried 38s too - feels like you are shooting a 22.

Thank you Tom. I would have.

I've shot Rob's lever that was slicked up by Jim Taylor so I know what it is but I'd-a shot yours anyway!

It is a fun gun to shoot

One of my favorites.
