Makarovs?

A buddy is looking into Makarovs, and I'm clueless as far as personal experience with them.
Beyond the anonymous online repeat-o-knowledge, any pointers you can offer would be appreciated. I did offer that surplus pricing, part of the back-then appeal, is a thing of the past, and that fine alternatives are plentiful.
If anyone can bring one to CSA for me to examine and fire, that would be a bonus. Thx!
