Has anyone tried the Hornady FTX LEVERevolution Bullets?

I have thought about getting some to reload for a .357 lever action and was wondering if anyone had tried these? Logically they should improve the aerodynamics of the bullet to create a more accurate round for longer ranges, but is it enough of a difference to warrant getting some?

Thanks for your input.

Yes, both first and second hand.

I use the 200gr. FTX's in a .356 Winchester. They cluster into tiny (for me) groups at the ranges I've shot. Haven't done terribly long distance but this rifle is intended to be a 'Close Quarters Hog Rifle' (CQHR for the ininitiated). I have not yet taken any game but I expect they'll perform.

Two other second hand experiences...
A fella chased hogs with us one year, used a .30WCF with FTX's. Hit a hog twice and put him down for good. Both bullets were recovered and a fella could have cleaned them off and used them in a magazine ad they were so perfectly mushroomed.

My brother loaded up a .357 in an NEF Handi to be used by a young man (~12, I think) to take his first hog. He did and it worked just fine.

I would not hesitate to use them against deer or hogs.

Hope this helps.

I have not used them but everyone but one person I have talked to loves them both for accuracy and the way that they work on whitetails . One guy at hunting camp said they would not group from his 35 Marlin but I question his shooting ability because everyone loves the ammo and I have not seen a Marlin that shoots that bad. J.Michael

Have not shot them in the .35 Rem....yet.

That will happen one of these days. I expect it to be uneventful.

I picked up a 35 Rem Marlin last year...

I bought a 2012 Marlin 336 in 35 Remington with a low mounted 3-9x40 Bushnell Tracker scope.

It came with two boxes of Hornady 200gr. FTX ammo.
Honestly I was shocked when it shot a number of 3 shot groups just under an inch. The worst group (with a suspected flyer was 1 1/4".

Tanner and I shot up the two boxes, and I can't find any right now. Hhhmmpphhhh!
I just might have to buy another set of dies for the 35 Rem. and start handloading for it again.

A 357 magnum, even in a rifle, runs out of steam really quickly. Hornadys 140 gr FTX has a BC of .160, and a SD of .157. The XTP of the same weight shows .169 BC, and .157 SD. I don't see any advantage. The plain old 158 XTP smokes them both, relatively speaking.
