I like 16", but 18" is a good compromise...
Like uncowboy said, once you reach 16 inches for a 357 the powder is for the most part burned. Anything past that the velocity increase is negligible, at that point it's more up to what ammo you are using. Personally I'd prefer the shorter barrel for easier handling considering you intend to use it as a truck gun, those extra 2-4inches make a difference on where you can store it.
