After flirting, then Infatuation, then a five year affair

by MR, Saturday, February 15, 2014, 16:58 (3940 days ago)

I have decided it best to return home. I am putting the 380 in the safe and returning to my old faithfuls. I shot my P3at Kel Tec today more than at any one time in the past 2 or 3 years, and I have decided I am better served (can hit better, quicker, more reliably) with my old airweight Bodyguards. I guess I'm just getting old and want to get back to the companions of my youth. I admit I was a foolish old man enamored with the younger sleeker model. I truly deserve any ridicule that comes my way for this indiscretion.

I've tried several pocket rockets and keep coming back to the J Frame!

Slow Hand, I think anybody of age fifty or over has been there done that. :-P

I've also tried several small 380's, old stuff and new models as well. The BDA 380 is the only one I can shoot reasonably good but larger guns are much better. I've tried the "J" frame type and can't do with it either. Right now the best relatively small one for me is the XD9C. My conclusion is to use what works for you; after all, effective use is what counts. Enjoy that J....I'm sure you are welcome back.

When I got my carry permit 13 years ago

I started with a Taurus 85, went through a couple of compact autos, a Keltec, an LCP and then back to my roots - Sith Airweight 38. Like you I can hit much better with it. I still carry the LCP some depending on the pockets of the pants I am wearing at the time but my near constant companion is the Airweight.

Ah the dark side. ;)

Naw - the dark side is when I carry my Sith M&P Compact

I still like my LCP but don't carry it all that much anymore

by Jared, Saturday, February 15, 2014, 19:51 (3940 days ago) @ MR

Lately I have really fallen for my XDs 45. But there is always a j frame close by. I was out in the pasture off and on all day today and a 442 was in my pocket loaded with Keith hollow points.

Same here, Jared...

My LCP sits on top of my dresser almost all the time...my XD-S 45 is the go to any more.

I've shot both and I agree with you mostly. For some people the p2at can be carried in situations where the J-frame could not be. But the J-frame is easier to shoot.

I think we are all relation or connected by ESP

by Bob Hatfield @, Sunday, February 16, 2014, 05:33 (3939 days ago) @ MR

The last few days I've been contemplating laying down the LCP for my 442. For some reason I feel more confident with the Smith. Not that I doubt those Winchester high dollar HPs that are in the LCP, but the LCP still feels like a toy. Not putting it away either, just use either at different times.

Bob

Well said Bob Hatfield. I haven't forsaken my J frames, but

there are times when my XDs or LCP goes along with me. What I appreciate about the LCP is it is the no excuse not to carry gun. personally, I feel that way about the J...but time has taught me many folks just won't bother to try and hide them on their persons...I miss my 3" 649...THAt gun shot like a laser...traded it for a 629...

Lots of bling there...

Might'n want to wipe it off.

It's got finger prints all over it or sumfin.

That is purty, adjustable sights and all...

I used to carry a 3" 36 for 2 reasons, it was all I had and all I could get. Have vacillated twixt this and that since becoming a financial success (i.e. convincing the kids to get out on their own and paying off all the associated debt) but have yet to get the urge to tote one of those little plastic .380s. Just can't love 'em. However, if that was all that I had and all that I could get...

AT LEAST one gun with me. ;-)

My go to is a model 10 with 2" barrel and round butt

by Jeff Taylor @, Tampa FL, Sunday, February 16, 2014, 16:16 (3939 days ago) @ MR

I love that gun but I often cheat with a Glock 26 or 30SF. I convince myself that arthritis makes the double action less suitable so I carry the soul-less Glock for a while then I get a need for the old round gun on my side again. I have a 640 also and I love those centenials but there's just something extra special about a K frame snub.
