Looking for a set of N frame Magna grips
by Fowler, Saturday, February 15, 2014, 16:21 (3940 days ago)
I have an old Highway Patrolman with the big target style grips that are just too big for my hands. I am not looking for anything new, in fact an old worn set would match the gun better anyways.

They will feel & look great...essentially what the "new Improved" Jerry Miculek grips.
are. Now if they are old Coke Bottles or diamond sell those on ebay they fetch crazy prices...

Those regular old 70s target grips in good condition will now bring $125 up. As long as we're on the subject of crazy prices.

I have thought of that but the Magna shaped grip I sort of want to try, I like how they feel but I have never spent much time with that style of grip. If is was inclined to massage these grips they would be good canadates for it. This gun was at some point clearly a duty weapon, the front sight is actually worn round on the right side of the sight, minor pits, holster wear, somewhat beat up grips bit still ok condition. I just don't know how I feel about modifying them.
Someone here has a great set of J Scott N magnas: these

have been passed around for more than a decade as loners and as a joke. they are green Pearlite and look hideous but feel like factory magnas...
Look on ebay.. I can't stand magnas , without a grip adapter, myself.
I have several pair of the free shipping 42.00 guy and they are good. I order Herretts, for my keepers.

About a month ago I got some fake Ivory magnas from

Boone Trading Co. for my 4 inch 629.
They fit fine for off the shelf grips.
If you can't find a decent set of affordable Magnas, look at

the Herretts cocobolos the CDNN offers from time to time.
They're sort of an in-between size, and are generally well made for the price. I recall that they were finished with some form of poly that I didn't care for, but it might be the inlaws-are-visiting-mandatory-drinking memory lapse.
Anyway, a decent alternative to high priced, mediocre quality magnas. High priced, high quality magnas are a different story.

Those $9.99 "dark wood" grips on E/B are a very crudely sanded down version of what you have. You could go for them pretty cheap, or if you are at all competent at working with wood you can do a MUCH better job of redoing your grips yourself. A few years back I bought a badly battered and scarred set of N Targets out of a box at a gun show, and cut them down, recheckered, and refinished them. They look and fit my hand much better than the factory N-Targets, and I had all of $5 and some piddlin' time in them.
Of course, the gun then looked so good with those nice stocks on it that I went and spent over a hundred bucks on a custom holster rig for it, so the project didn't turn out so cheap after all....

Seller :070363-64 on E/B has a great-looking set of Franzite fake-stag Magnas listed, current bid $2.50. Take my word for it that they will look great on an old blue-worn Model 28 - I had an identical set on mine before I got the targets I reworked. Magnas on an N-frame need a Tyler adapter for my hand, but YMMV.
If you buy 'em and don't like them, I will take them off your hands. I like the durn things.
