I've got about 100 cases you can have for the $6 postage to get it to you but email is out for now. Are you on another forum that we can PM on ?

Well make that Ruger Forum. I can't log into single actions with the new changes. I am also a member on a few other boards and Facebook.

Enfield No 2 Mk 1, I got it from a friend a while back, and haven't been able to shoot it for various reason including a move. Now that things are slowly settling down I need to get some ammo for it and actually shoot it.

I've got one of those old Brits, too. Aside from the tough trigger it's a nice shooter. Cleaning the crud out and dosing with Lubriplate helped the trigger, and I filed the front sight a bit to correct the POI. Those guns were sighted for the 178 grain British service load, and the lighter .38 S&W factory loads hit low.

Even though it is a top-break, these things are stronger than the old "suicide special" breaktops. Mine shoots well with .358 diameter 158 grain hard-cast SWCs over 3.2 grains of Unique.

Magtech sells their 146 grain swaged lead round nose bullets as reloading components, in 100-count plastic bags. They may sell cases too, but I have not seen any.

Do you know what your bore diameter is? I know one of my .358 molds casts closer to .360-.362 and I'm pretty sure it's in the 170gr range. If you want to try some out, let me know and I'll look to see what I've got on hand.

I'm a long way from being an expert (on anything) but here's how I understand the bore diameter situation: .38 S&W bores are all over the place - the old guns (pre 1930s) ranged from .359 to .361, depending on who made them. After WW2, Smith & Wesson began using the same bore diameter for both their .38 S&W and .38 Special guns. Colt may or may not have done the same with their postwar guns. .38 S&W factory ammo is SUPPOSED to be .360 - never measured any, nor have I slugged any of my bores. Most of my loading has been for a 1956 S&W Terrier, which shoots .358 diameter bullets just fine. I suspect the bore of that gun is about .358. Recovered bullets show good rifling marks. I have no idea what size the bore of my Enfield is, but the same bullets shoot well in it so I suspect it is also somewhere around .358.

The Magtech bullets are 146 grains and are the same as the ones used in their loaded ammo. I suspect they are about .360. HOWEVER, they are very accurate in the Terrier, so they must not be too far off.

I have a couple of other .38 S&W guns, but they are breaktops and I never shoot anything but factory loads in them. One is an IJ Owl Head that is so smooth you can barely see where the rifling USED to be. It will barely keep any kind of bullet on a washtub at 25 feet, but cut-down CCI shot capsules (.357 diameter) loaded with #8 shot will make hash out of a rat or snake. The capsules probably only occasionally touch the bore on the way out and certainly don't take any spin.

I appreciate the offer, but I've got so many other mouths to feed right now I'm just going to stick with the two loads I'm currently using. The Terrier likes the 158 grain hard cast SWC over 3.2 grains of Unique, which is good for about 730 fps and plenty accurate. That gun, so loaded, stays in my front britches pocket a lot of the time. All the others are just for playin' with occasionally.

Not sure on the bore but the throats are .359" . I have a mold from one of the lee group buys that cast a Keith bullet at .362 or so. I may try it and see what I can get accuracy wise.

Thanks for the offer.

Thanks for the info. I use unique in a lot of my loading so I will try it out on the .38 too. This one was a good shooter for the former owner.

I found some starline in stock at Graffs, but with the minimum order I would be in it for 3 bags plus handling fees so I am going to wait until there is something else I need to order from them before doing it.

I just got a brand new bag of Starline cases last time I was home but I'll be danged if I can remember where I ordered them from. I will look in my email folder and let you know if I find it. I am going to trim them down and use them in a little Taurus 9mm snubbie I bought on a lark.

If you're going to shoot them in a 9mm chamber, .38 S$W brass can be reloaded very nicely with 9mm dies. In fact, I used my 9mm dies and a .38 Special shell holder for years before I ran across a set of .38 S&W dies.
