Guys help me out on the Red Dot reflex site, Just sold Aim.
Aimpoint Mirco ,,,,,I bought two of these Micro Aimpoints and put them on a shotgun and a rifle to be used on driven game...From five to 100 yards I got my hat handed to me every time I tried to shoot game. Could not get animals in the site picture.
I sold one of them and kept one to practice with. Think I might have been closing an eye..........Put scopes and open sites back on guns and filled my tags the last few weeks of season. All running shots. 100 percent.
Now I have a EO TECH on my AR and while that I never hunted running game with it. It does seem easier to use than the Micro Aimpoints.
What am I doing wrong? and what can you guys suggest to help me improve?
Man it is tuff in the woods to keep animal in site window.

I believe you are doing what most people do when using a RD sight, aim it like a normal scope, concentrating on the dot like a cross hair, which is not the best way to use a RD sight.
You need to look thru the tube to the target with both eyes open, concentrate on the target not the dot. When done correctly the dot will appear as if it is a laser dot being projected onto the animal/target, this happens when your dominate eye is aligned with the tube and the target.
RD sights are the best option when close and/or fast shots are taken, their speed in this type of shooting is tops. But you loose a lot of the benefit of the RD sight when used with one eye or aimed like a normal scope.

So what if your cross eye dominant
right hand shooter,,,,,,,,,master left eye...........Or I guess I should ask Does it matter? That was one thing that appealed to me in the beginning.

I can't say for certain as I amp not cross eye dominant, but I'd think a red dot would help with that. A training 'trick' I've heard of it so close of tape off the front of a red dot sight. When you look through it all you see is black with a red dot I there. If you have both eyes open, your brain superimposes the dot onto the vision from the other eye. I was supposed but it really did work. Honestly, I have. Hard time shooting anything, even shotguns, with both eyes open. It's something I'm still

There was an early form of red dot called occluded eye(?)

That is true, it was the Armson, OEG...
for 'occluded eye gunsight' and I was a sales rep for the company in the mid-80s. Still have my display model but the tritium needs to be replaced as it is very dim now. I probably should sell it since, having lost the use of my left eye, it is no longer usable by me, but it is a good memento from a fun time.
