took a look at last year's national 10 Meter Air Pistol scores, top gun classified for the finals with 565 out of 600. Makes it tempting to try for a national title here... :)

No congrats yet, still need to look into what it'd take to get to the national finals. Shoots usually conflict with responsibilities, but who knows? Also need to make more time for dry fire right here in the office. But the scores I saw are well within reach with a bit of effort.

I had the pleasure to shoot with Connie in Nashville, back when she was in her prime, and attended one of her clinics. The time, dedication, and financial outlay it took her to make those two olympic teams in Air Pistol and Sport Pistol, was no small feat. Her training regimen was pretty impressive. It was poetry just to watch her shoot. I encourage you to "go for it", and have fun.

Thank you, sir! And fun is what it's all about. I probably don't have the time, $$$ and inclination to make a push to Olympic standards - but it'd be hilarious (to my twisted humor way of thinking) to push the national top shooters to compete against a foreigner on their own turf, in their own league. Maybe it'd give someone the necessary incentive to give us an internationally competitive chance.

to get started. Champion Sports in Nashville use to have some pretty good deals on used air guns. If memory serves, don't discount those South American shooters, they use to field some pretty good international contingents to the various shooting disciplines. Air pistol, Running Boar, Double Trap, come to mind. Again, go for it! Let us know how it goes! I hope to see you on the podium!

I've got the basics, a Baikal IZH-46M that followed me down a few years ago and a supply of reasonably decent target grade pellets, albeit not quite the best fodder for the pistol.

We've got some fine shooters here, but 10 Meter Pistol has fairly low scores for the most part at this time. We're discussing setting up a youth league here in town, but to attract the necessary funding we need someone with a shot at bringing home a medal. After scoping the competition a bit I think it'd be doable - IF I can manage to find a way to make it to the qualifiers for the national event. With our current work load that's not as easy as it might seem, and if things pan out at our national convention as it would appear that they will then time will be even scarcer. Won't know 'til after the first week of February. In the meantime I'm feeling out the territory a bit and looking at what the FEDETIRO may be able to do for us locally as to providing the necessary regulation targets, etc.

Any excuse to spend more time tossing lead around is a good one, and 10 Meter is the only aspect of the sport that is fairly open to shooters here at this time with a relatively small outlay of cash. Sporting clays, trap and skeet all require a minimum outlay of around $5,000 US for the shotgun and a few boxes of shells - and there's no local SC, trap or skeet ranges.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll post any updates on the situation. If we can get a group of kids together it'd be a great way to provide for the future of the sports here, and that's one of my main concerns.

You should go for it.

Here in the states, you can be REALLY, REALLY good and not good enough to be competitive.

Looking forward to knowing a National Champ!

The work with the kids is also a huge thing regardless of anything else.

Go for it Paul. Hopefully your skills with carry you all the way to the top. If not, then at least you tried and not many get that far 'up there' in their chosen sport.
