I may just have to break my S&W key lock vow...

I didn't think there was a S&W I needed bad enough to buy another one with a lock but that new Model 69!!! For a 5 shot 44 MAGNUM the same size as my GP100...yeah, I'm seriously thinking about it. I don't care for the black cylinder latch though...what's up with that?

I crossed that bridge a long time ago. Two 500's, a Governor, and a couple of Perfomance Center N frames. The Thunder Ranch 325 is one that would make anyone fall in love after one range session.

Just strip the gun and reassemble minus flag and with "the plug" in place of the lock.

I almost bout a TR 325...

And you are absolutely right about that! But a .44 Magnum the same size as my every day carry gun...I'm salivating:)

This new model 69 will have to be VERY good to replace my Mountain Gun, but I will probably give one a try.

Have a 325 Thunder Ranch..for sale....

Not concerned about the lock with 38s but I would be in 44 magnum.

I would definitely remove or disable the lock. NM

..

from wat I've read it is only a problem with the heavy

Recoiling magnums. I haven't seen anything on the 38s.

Um, Tom - from what I have heard, the lightweight .38 Specials have had problems as well. Sharp recoil impulse seems to be what causes the lock to move on it's own.

I'm chicken to try it myself

I may have to enlist your expertise or at least supervision on our next rendezvous.

model 69?

by D. Sikes @, Friday, January 10, 2014, 16:42 (3913 days ago) @ rob

I thought the S&W model 69 was a semiauto pistol.... you're saying S&W now has a .44 mag (not .44 special) 5-shot revolver?... you sure it's a model 69?... I've googled it but have not found it... even at the S&W Forum or the S&W website... am I looking at the wrong thing? TELL ME MORE!!! GRIN

is it similar to the Taurus 5-shot Tracker in .44 Mag?

model 69?

by D Sikes, Friday, January 10, 2014, 17:06 (3913 days ago) @ D. Sikes

FOUND IT ... looked at it on the Smith and Wesson website... took me a while to find it but I did.. .and I WANT!!!! An L-Frame in .44mag.. I mean I love my Rossi 720 in .44 special.. it fits my hand perfectly like most K-Frame size revolvers do.. the N-Frames were just a bit too big for my comfort.. that's why I never bothered to get a Model 29... but the new Model 69 would be a perfect companion to my Rossi... I mean.. I can now load one snake shot, two .44 specials and then two .44Mags in one revolver.. be ready for nearly anything on the farm... in a comfortable (to me) sized revolver... GRIN What's not to like.. hehehe

I sure want one...

For all practical purposes it is the same size and weight as my 4" GP100 I carry every day. I'd rather have a 5 shot .44 than a 6 shot .35:) I would load it gently though. Not because of the strength of the gun but simply because it's pretty light for a DA .44 Magnum. A 240 Keith or XTP at 1000 fps would be fine. I prefer an N-Frame for shooting and I have carried them concealed a good bit but the GP100 or L-Frames are a little easier to pack.

Is there a weight listed?

by cas, Friday, January 10, 2014, 21:18 (3913 days ago) @ rob

With only 5 holes, and a full length frame filling cylinder, I wonder what it will weigh vs a 686 and a 629 Mounntain gun.

Is there a weight listed?

It was within an ounce or two of the new Gp100 Match Champion but I don't remember exactly. It's listed in the specs on the S&W page.

I don't recall the numbers, but I remember that it's about four ounces lighter than a 629 Mountain Gun.

I haven't seen this much interst in a new Smith since the 500.

The 929 has the USPSA and ICORE shooters all a buzz as well,

by cas, Saturday, January 11, 2014, 11:49 (3912 days ago) @ Warhawk

…but I think the general concern is price obviously, new S&W prices are staggering. And just how many will they actually make. 400-500 gun distributor exclusive runs like in the past will leave a lot of unhappy people.

A couple of these announced have me very interested, but there's absolutely no chance of me coming up with $1200+ to buy one.
Don't know that I would even if I could.

I hear that!

I am not sure I could do an $800 gun in this economy without selling or trading something and I've learned my lesson on that. I could do it but I think becoming debt free is far more important:)
