New Rock Island pistols for 2014

Most of you know I work at a gun shop/pawn shop and we deal with Davidsons (huge firearms distributor, located next door to the Ruger plant in Prescott, AZ). We use other distributors, but they are usually our primary source.

Anyway, I was checking prices on a 10mm Rock Island for a customer and noticed two new models, both Commander sized, in 10mm! One railed and one regular frame. Not sure if the railed version is full length or not, there were no pictures.

This got me curious (and excited), so I checked to see if there were any 1911 .40s listed. Score! Four models, two Government size and two Commander size. Both sizes with or without rails. Again, no pics, so not sure about rail details.

I'm pretty sure all these variations were listed as having VZ grips, but it was getting busy so I had to help customers. One thing that stood out was that the Commanders all had a true 4.25" barrel.

Best of all, they had a part number for a gun Rock Island has discussed in the past but never brought in so far, an all steel 1911 XT22 chambered to .22 Magnum! I pray this isn't vaporware, as it would be an absolutely terrific field pistol.

As for me a Commander sporting a full rail in 10mm is going home with me so I can play around at converting it to .357 SIG. If the rail isn't full, I will pick up a regular Commander sized version in 10mm to convert. Either way, cool beans!

the .357 SIG or .38 Super (or 9x23). But, I like the .45 ACP and the CCO is really nice.

One of the stupidest things I ever didn't do

About three years ago I found a Colt Combat Commander in .38 Super at a LGS, priced at $600. Like a dern fool, I didn't buy it.

I think now, after having some experience with the .38 Super cartridge, AND the Combat Commander in .45, that if I had to get along with just one centerfire autoloader I would want it to be a .38 Super Combat Commander.

Oh well - like the old Dutchman said, "Ve get too soon oldt und too late schmart!"
