Seeking opinions on the Savage 110 platform for magnums

I am interested in a rifle for sale in a magnum caliber on a Savage 110 action. It does not appear to be the Accu-Trigger style but, beyond that, I know precious little about Savages.

Anything I should find out ahead of the game? Any "watch-outs"?

Thanks as always!

The only Savage I've owned was a Scout, about 15 years ago when they first came out. Good shooter but the detachable mag kept falling out.

I recently purchased a 110BA in 338 Lapua

I like it so far... Too new to me to pass any real experienced judgement on it. I bought it because I had heard so many good things about the rifle in this caliber.

Seeking opinions on the Savage 110 platform for magnums

I have found the Savage action to be most satisfactory for Magnum actions. Personally I throw the accu- triggers away and use a Basix. Have built probably 50-60 rifles using the Savage Long action platform. Mostly with Lilja bbls. Use ground and pinned bbl lugs more satisfactory than the original bbl nut. Unless customer specifies otherwise usually make solid bottom single shot. I steel bed a solid follower. Most of these creations shoot 1/4 MOA to 500 plus yards. :-|

Thank you Sir!

A better endorsement does not come to mind.

"Only" 1/4 MOA, huh? I have trouble doing that with a single round.

Thank you Sir!

Have had numerous customers ??? It but sit at the bench at 300 yards put 3 shots into 11/2" and just tickled to death. Saying that's the best group they ever shot. Then I sit down and put 3 into 1/2" with the same gun and ammo. They looked chagrinned. I tell them all it takes is a little practice. :-P I can also do the same at 500 yds. :-P

I was a good shot, both rifle and handgun, up until I met a good shot.

Now, I realize, I am only fair on the scale of "good". I'll pride myself that I can usually outshoot most of the goobers at the local range but I've seen good and I ain't there...yet. ;-)

Thanks again for your opinions and insights.
