Three decades? Almost. It doesn't seem that long since

the big flap over replacing the "venerable" 1911 with the Beretta M9. And now they're looking for a replacement for the replacement. This should prove interesting to watch.

We just got an advisory in PS magazine for inspections

by Miles Fortis ⌂ @, CIVITATES AMERICAE, Friday, December 20, 2013, 16:55 (3934 days ago) @ Paul

Very serious inspections for cracks all over; frame/slide/barrel, you name it.

No idea which pistol will eventually replace the M9. Or caliber. Fotay Shotay might be in the running.

Glock or Sig is as good a guess as any as certain unnamable units use them both.

experienced a number of slide/frame cracks in the itralian guns.

Why did JMB design the best 9mm ever made, to hold 14+1?

by ERSisk, Friday, December 20, 2013, 23:05 (3934 days ago) @ Paul

When he saw the wimpy 9mm cartridge he realized it would take twice as many to do what 7 rounds of his 45 acp 1911 could do. :)

Assuming you're referring to the Hi-Power . . .

. . . it was originslly 15+1, and was reduced to 13+1 before finalized. The French specs had called for "a great number of cartridges."

But your reasoning is excellent, even if the Frogs hadn't considered it that way.

They should go Glock and be done with it..nm

Charles, I dern well know better than to disagree with you, but I'm gonna do it anyway. Issuing Glocks to rank-and-file soldiers will get a bunch of them shot. Even the supposedly well-trained cops around here cannot seem to keep their fingers off the triggers of their Glurks, and there have been several accidental shootings. I continue to believe that the Glock, for all it's great features, is an unsafe design without a positive, manually-operated safety.

OTOH, if the U.S. Army were to spec a Glock pistol with a requirement for a manual safety, Glock would have an excuse to make one, and the rest of us could have a great handgun that could be carried and used safely.

How does it get a safety from the Internet?

True, supposing...

by rob @, Saturday, December 21, 2013, 23:28 (3933 days ago) @ Catoosa

They redesign the grip frame so it fits somebody with less than 6" long fingers in the big frame or add a bit of beavertail so the small frame won't slide bite. I've had the worst luck trying to find a Glock that fits me and I've got large hands/average fingers. After five attempts I'm done with the G gun. I just went back to the good old 1911 I never shoulda left:)

Have you tried the XDm ? This old 1911 shooter likes the XDm.

Definitely...

by rob @, Monday, December 23, 2013, 19:09 (3931 days ago) @ Cherokee

The XDm is as perfect as a plastic pistol can get. I like the looks of the plain XD best but the improvements in the XDm make it a better pistol in my opinion. I really want an XDs .45 but need to slow down the gun buying a good bit.
