10mm 1911's

A RIA 10mm popped up semi locally and piqued an interest in me for some reason. I've never owned a 10mm. Can't use it for hunting around here, it's just be a fun gun. Any insights on 10mm in a 1911?

They have a lot more zip in the recoil than a .45. There is internet rumor about the 1911 frame not holding up well over lots of rounds. My favorite 10mm is the Glock 20.

I too have owned and shot both. One is a gun designed for 15K CUP loads and modified for 36K CUP loads. The other is designed and built for 36K CUP loads. As a confirmed 1911 shooter, in 10mm the . Glock 20 wins hands down
Do the numbers, a 180-200 gr. projo @ 1200 plus or a 230 gr. projo @ 850 or less depending on bbl. length...I find little difference in noticeable recoil, maybe a tad more blast. The Glock 20 is certainly a better CCW. IMNSHO :-P

They refuse to build an ergonomic gun. I've had one 23, two 19's, a 36 a 21 Gen-4. The 36 is the only one I could really get along with. The 19's and 23 the slide is so closed to my hand they cut the web of my hand in less than 50 rounds. The 21, even with no filler on the back makes the trigger reach a stretch and I do not have short fingers either. They ain't long, but they sure ain't below average. I do have large hands though and I can squeeze a piece of hardened steel until it screames for mercy but the trigger pull on that 21, even after putting a 3.5lbs Glock disconnect or on it was still impossible for me to shoot accurately. I swear it feels like I'm the only one in the world that just can't find a Glock to suit me and I've really tried. If they'd make a single stack version of the 21...same length barrel as the 21 but in a single stack version with a slide and frame the same width as the 36 with a grip length the same as the 21 and put them out with a a trigger pull of about 4.5Lbs, I'd buy two of them right now but being it's not a 13+ round gun I guess they think nobody will buy one. Funny...I bet annual 1911 sales of all the different makers are no less than Glock's annual sales but I digress.

......I have had one in the past, but that was many moons ago. Glen probably has more 10mm experience than many of us here put together.

By the way, we have sold many RIA pistols, to include 10mm. All our customers rave about them for the money. I bought one myownself. Mine is a wondererful pistol, a full rail 5" .45 that is extremely soft and smooth to shoot. There are a few rough edges, but that is part of the fun. You get to hone things to your satisfaction.

BTW, I did pick up a 10mm 1911 of my own recently, but have yet to play with it. It ihas a 6" slide and barrel, the Elite LS Hunter by Para-USA. I have high hopes it will be a semi-auto death ray. As for reports that the 1911 is not up to the round, frankly I was always a bit concerned in that regard. My limited experience, and I'm sure Glen will confirm this, is to pay close attention to your springs. Don't use a lower power hammer spring either. And get yourself one of the firing pin retaining plates with a squared off rather than beveled bottom, that is supposed to slow things down a bit as well.

I bought the 6 incher to obtain more velocity, and to get the added weight and perhaps slower unlocking that the longer slide and barrel should hopefully deliver.
