One of SAAMI's newest cartridges goes a bit old school...

Trying some cast bullets in the .300 whisper. If I can get these to function 100% subsonic I'll get a lot more play time as opposed to shooting 225 BTHP Match bullets. These are 180 gr 311284. I've got a flat nosed 31141 170 gr and a 210 round nosed 311291 I plan on trying out as well. These are mainly for fun plinking at steel with a can so as long as they'll hold 4moa or so I'll be happy. Hope to test some this weekend and finally get some chrono readings on the 225's and the 125 gr Speer TNT's.

One other thing and I'll try and get a pic of it but if you look at them right, the .300blk looks a lot like a scaled down .35 Remington!

The two originally suggested powders were AA 1680 for heavy subsonic loads as Lil Gun for the lighter faster loads. I've used Lil Gun in my 125 and 147 loads. The 147 load was just a swag that he opened to shoot ok and cycle the action. Lots of folk are using H110 now for the lighter loads and even HP38 and Wincheater 231 in manual repeaters. I may try some red dot and unique once I get my bolt action put together. This cast loaf was extrapolated from someone else's 180 jacketed load and honestly seems low but I'll give it a try and go from there.

It struck me that this cartridge is somewhat similar to what I had loaded at one time in .30 Herrett. The .300Wh case is a bit smaller than .30H, but I was loading 165 grain bullets for silhouette and some people loaded even heavier bullets. I started using powders slower than LilGun, and later moved to even slower powders. My best results were with WW748 which is a lot slower than LilGun. But now that I think about it, if a person was going to use .300Wh for its intended purpose of use with a can, then faster powders might be more appropriate- by reducing pressure at the muzzle and thus muzzle blast, wouldn't it make the can more efficient?

It seems to work well in small cases.
They Do look like 35 Rem cartridges. Anxious to see results
