I think a few words are in order

regarding my previous post about CCI .22 WRF ammunition. I most certainly did not mean that as a criticism of CCI - as far as I am concerned, CCI makes the best .22 ammo to be had in this or any other country. Nor was it meant as a criticism of them for placing that warning on the .22 WRF boxes. The reason for the post in the first place was that I found out an obscure bit of information that I thought interesting, and wanted to pass it on to anyone else who might have a question about using this ammo in .22 Magnum revolvers.

Apparently a couple of folks here thought I was lambasting CCI for putting that warning on the boxes in the first place. No such thing. I certainly understand why they did it, but with no other information at hand it raised a question in my mind, which, by the way, the folks at CCI answered quickly and cheerfully.

This subject might not be of any great inport to some folks, but I've found the .22 WRF to be one of the sweetest shooting and most effective of small-bore handgun rounds.

Keith thought the .22 WRF better than the .22 LR IIRC.

I do.

I wasn't aware that the early .22 WRF guns, any of them, had smaller than .224" barrels. Indeed, I thought that is why the .22 WRM had .224" barrels rather than the slightly smaller .22 LR barrel dimensions. I fail to see how the firing of one in the other would be a problem and found the discussion interesting.

No offense meant (and none taken), but the original post failed to place CCI's warning in its proper context. Next, the "manufacturers and experts" were castigated for their apparent stupidity. This just seemed wrong to me, and in fact still does.

CCI was right from the get-go. Since the issue concerned safety, I thought it was important that someone explain why.

As for the Q&A I posed on using .22 WRF ammunition in .22 WRM revolvers, suffice to say that both were much like the practice itself: Purely rhetorical. :-D

Good shooting!

I'm just glad no one mentioned shooting .45 S&W in a .45 Long Colt...

Well then, I will mention:

Shooting .22 long and short in .22 LR chambers;

Shooting .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long in .32 Magnum chambers (and all 3 of those in .327 chambers);

Shooting .38 Special in .357 Magnum chambers;

Shooting .44 Russian in .44 Special chambers and both those in .44 Magnums

Oh yeah, I forgot - .22 CB caps!

This one will really get your goat, FOG - I once ran out of shells at a dove shoot and loaded my Dad's 16 gauge A.H. Fox double with 28 gauge shells borrowed from my uncle and "sleeved" with empty 16 gauge hulls with the heads cut off.

Killed a dove with one of them, too.:-D

What can I tell you?...

Ruger Redhawk .357 Magnum (7½-inch bbl) / Federal Gold Medal Match .38 Special (148-gr HBWC)

It takes one to know one. :-D

That's a beauty, FOG

I'll bet shooting .38 wadcutters in that thing is like shooting a .22!

I have a 6" Security Six that's a real pleasure, too. Nothing against the GP100, but I've always preferred the looks of the Security Six, and the Redhawk looks just like a larger version.

it is s great round- grabbed several 1000 of the last run

the rim is a little to big to let them feed thru my uberti 1873 SRC chambered in 22 mag , may modify it to work as its probably the best overall small game 22 round in the rifle too
