From drought to flood...all in a week's time

by Wildcat, Flint Hills of Kansas, Monday, August 05, 2013, 07:21 (4133 days ago)

Last Monday we got 9 inches of rain in a very short space of time. The rain has continued all week. We had been in a drought for the last couple of years. Pics tell the story. These are on Highway 99 south of Emporia, Kansas. This is the highway I normally take to get to my office in the morning. The Cottonwood River is supposed to remain at flood stage at least until Friday, though we're forecast to get rain every day this week. I now detour over to the Kansas Turnpike, which they've opened for flood traffic. Adds about 15 miles to my commute everyday.

It's still the Wild West.

Too bad the old Amphicars aren't made anymore. It would make a great commuter car for that situation.

Emporia, remember that area from when I lived in Kansas. Don't remember rain like that tho....glad you are not flooded.
