S&W "Heritage" hand ejectors

by brionic @, Saturday, July 27, 2013, 23:04 (4081 days ago)

Did the 2001-era Heritage N-frames incorporate all the earlier endurance package refinements?

Seems like a no brainer, but I've been surprised before.

Yes, the N-frames have the 'endurance package'

Generally speaking, the best external indicator of its presence is the longer notches machined in the cylinder. By 2001, the package was 'standard equipment' in all models built on the N-frame, including the Heritage Series.

Of course, exceptions exist. I saw a Model 24-3 with a 'long-notch' cylinder and a probable factory refinish at a gun show several years ago, so you never know what you'll find out there.

The M24-3 cylinder was recalled, within a specific serial

by brionic @, Sunday, July 28, 2013, 08:08 (4080 days ago) @ FOG

number range, due to bad heat treating.

Factory sponsored inspections resulted in either stamped boxes for "passed" guns or replaced cylinders on "bad" guns, which is what you undoubtedly saw.

Exhaustion of new replacement cylinders and other parts has altered the factory repair paradigm. Look before you leap.

I might be wrong, but if I recall correctly, the recall was only for the stainless 624 and did not involve the 24-3.

Think you might be right Steve...

I had a 4" 624 that I had to send back. Apparently mine wasn't one of those with the problem. I think they stamped a "C" on the box or some such thing, can't really remember, but yea, I had to send it in.

Right, I'm confused (again)

Thx for clarifying.

I have a couple of those, great sixguns. (nm)

Thx. I bought it.

25-11, blued, NIB, and I got a Boge-style deal on it.

Should be a close match for something else, en route from David Carroll... :-P

Well done! A Boge-style deal, according to Jeff means...

by Boge Quinn, Sunday, July 28, 2013, 18:06 (4080 days ago) @ brionic

...not necessarily paying too MUCH, just too SOON!

He has told me that before.

Ha! I did both, dumbfounded by my luck.

by brionic @, Sunday, July 28, 2013, 18:40 (4080 days ago) @ Boge Quinn

Pictures soon.

Looking forward to it! I have...

I remember when you bought your .44

by brionic @, Monday, July 29, 2013, 16:03 (4079 days ago) @ Boge Quinn

I had been watching it, and then *POOF* it was gone as you clicked the Buy It Now button.

Lesson: Don't wait. Buy it Now. I did. Same price as yours, without the cch.

And a hint:

That's a dandy.

Mine is like Boge's without the CCH. Now I'm gonna have to dig it out and shoot it some.

Probably no need to worry about the cyl throats on that one

by FOG, Monday, July 29, 2013, 18:27 (4079 days ago) @ brionic

But from the Just-In-Case Category, it should probably also be noted that the presence of the 'endurance package' on the S&W Model 25-11 does not make it a Ruger.

You could probably run cast 250s @ ~950 through the gun all the live-long-day, but that's about as far as I'd take it.

JMO, YMMV, HTH, etc. :-)
