Oof!

A honey-hole at the Dallas show paid off this past weekend. This one is fresh out of an old collection, and hasn't seen the light of day in years. It's a pre-war K22 Outdoorsman in pristine condition. The checkering on the grips is still sharp.:-D It letters to Stoegers in NY in 1939.

That is one gorgeous old Smith & Wesson.

I amazes me how well kept some old guns have been. That's a beauty.

Jack, lemme know if that one's for sale...

...OOF, indeed!

Boge.

I've got it on GB with an opening bid of $1850. The sold ones I've looked up are all over the map, but the really crispy ones are all over 2K. I'm used to working cheap, so I will let you have it for that, and cover the shipping myself. Don't go through GB if you can use it. Just let me know and I will close the auction. At that price, their vig would sink my little boat.

That REALLY makes my dobber quiver...

...but it's out-of-reach, as I suspected.

And THAT gets me thinkin'

by FOG, Monday, June 17, 2013, 07:49 (4122 days ago) @ Boge Quinn

Now that you've bowed out, that is. (I wasn't about to butt in.)

Thinking aloud, I feel like I 'need' a centerfire single-action of some type, but I also realize what I can actually *use* are .22s.

In addition, DA revolvers work 'best' for me.

I can see myself 'caretaking' this one quite nicely...shooting it from time to time...

Hmmm...

Like I said before, 'He who hesitates is lost.'

The good news is, I just been found!

Is that a Call Bead front sight?

by FOG, Wednesday, June 12, 2013, 11:51 (4127 days ago) @ JLF

It kind of looks like it, but it's hard to tell.

I looked up and found the Gunbroker listing, but it doesn't say.

Downloaded the pic and zoomed-in on the front sight, and still couldn't tell.

If it has a Call Bead, I'd probably mention it in the ad, along with the material ('Gold' or Stainless Steel).

Of course, that is a VERY nice gun.

Most of them you see nowadays − which isn't all that many − are in much lesser condition.

Looked again: McGivern Gold Bead?

by FOG, Thursday, June 13, 2013, 02:56 (4126 days ago) @ FOG

From the side, it looks like the bead (if there) is not flush with the face of the blade, but convex (toward the shooter), or cylindrical, but sitting above the surface.

As I'm sure you know, that would be a 'McGivern' type of front sight.

Of course, the factory letter might also say, but both types were *almost* standard on 1st Model K-22s, so it might not. (If it didn't, I would still count the front sight as most likely being original equipment.)
