First Bowling Pin Shoot

We had our first bowling pin match this morning and I took first place. Primary reason was the gun and load. I didn't have many pins to chase as a fair hit drove them back off the table with power to spare.One moon clip of 6 rounds took the 5 pins of the table and no need to reload.

I used my 625 (5" underlug bbl.) in 45 ACP with good old 452423 going about 850 fps. The big 243 grain Keith bullet did the job and I can't see how it could be improved.

As we get into the game, time will become a bigger factor and I will lag behind. But today, they were trying to figure out how to knock them off the table and I had that covered. There were ten of us shooting, with 38 specials, 357 Magnums, and an assortment of 1911s in 45 ACP. Most of the 1911 shooters were using 230 RN factory stuff. It worked, but they had more spinners than I did.

I should think any 44 or 45 Keith bullet going 850 to 900 would do as well.

Congrats. Accuracy and mass at reasonable velocity do the trick. It is a lot of fun, I just don't get to do it very often.

I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

(OK, so this is mock indignation. For those of you who don't know, Charles wrote an article for The Cast Bullet many years ago entitled "452423 I Love You" in which he summarized several decades of experience with the 452423 in various forms of .45 caliber sidearms. His article served as an avenue for the two of us to get acquainted, first through the Cast Bullet Association, and later online, and I like to poke my friend in the ribs every so often just to make sure he knows what a smart-ass I can be.....).

Charles, the fact that you were successful with a .45 surprises me not in the least.

Momentum and meplat face prove their worth once again

Watch out for the 38 SPL shooters, weak enough load and one may get an inelastic collision with the pin and the bullet comes back from whence it was launched.

This is from reading (not personal experience) back when the bowling pin game first started and folks figured an accurate flat face of a WC load would be the key to winning matches.

Having caught one in the chest and one in the face I can assure you inelastic collisions are not one of those pure theory things. This is especially clear to me because I found both bullets this spring and interestingly enough, both are almost perfectly rounded in the front.

One cast, one jacketed, both 38 SPL mild load two different impact surfaces and separated by 10-15 years in time. One bullet is in the console of my truck as I type and one is currently misplaced

A buddy and I discovered you can do a reasonable facsimile of a pin shoot using chunks of split firewood. Yeah, we looked all "Duck Dynasty" doing it that way, but of course we didn't care...
