CASADA's REPORT ON ELMER has a snotnosed edge to it that sorta pisses me off because he isn't a patch on the butt of Elmer Keith.

And I thought it was just me...

Confidence is often confused with being bombastic by lesser men.

I agree and felt that way also.

I imagine he's just trying to bump-up his own bonafides...

...by invoking THE MAN.

Jim who???

by Jared, Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 13:58 (4148 days ago) @ Boge Quinn

I have all of Keith's books and some of his other writings. His opinions helped me form a lot of the opinions I have on firearms.

I must say I think Keith is probably one of the most misquoted gun writers out there.

In one of his books on hunting he even said a .270 would be adequate on grizzley bear as long as you were hunting them in open country and took your shot at 200 yards or so. But up close and personal it was inadequate and wouldn't be able to stop a determined charge.

Exactly. Now he has us talking about him...

...but I still can't remember his name without referring back to the article. Just as well, I suppose.

Any excuse to speak of Elmer

Thanks Madbo, even if I may not agree with the author, I do like reading about Mr. Keith.

The world was a different place

by anachronism, Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 20:25 (4147 days ago) @ Rob Leahy

The world was a different place in Elmers day, and most of the worlds "newbies" don't understand this. Elmer even said that a man carried his own justice with him, and that it often meant the difference in getting home safely at night. I think so many things have changed since those days that much of the truth about our past may be gone forever. There's too much "interpretation" these days. History doesn't require interpretation, and neither did men like Elmer. It was simply what you saw in front of you.

Not to say I didn't enjoy reading ANYTHING about Elmer. &
