Had the same thing happen in my Training battalion circa 1981; shrapnel shredded the back and legs of the NCO as he soccer kicked the grenade around the block wall.

I think NO ONE should ever be placed in a high-level policy making position in the Department of Defense unless they have spent several years as an NCO in COMBAT units. Perhaps that would eliminate some of the stupid decisions that are being made in DOD these days.

the quick response. As good as some officers are, the system is predicated on the idea that a certain class of people is smarter and more trustworthy ignoring individual capabilities. There are exceptions to any rule but...
