That they aren't on our side.

Here are the 16 Republicans who just moments ago voted with Feinstein, Schumer and Reid to advance Obama’s gun control bill.

If you are represented by one of these Senators, please get on the phone and let them know what you think.

Not a final vote on the bill.

by Charles, Thursday, April 11, 2013, 12:13 (4189 days ago) @ mcassill

These 16 Senators did not vote for the bill. They only voted to send it to the Senate for debate, amendments and a vote. The fat lady has not sung.

Yes, but not killing it in the crib...

by mcassill, Thursday, April 11, 2013, 14:10 (4189 days ago) @ Charles

Means they'll end up passing something we're probably not going to like.

Glad to see none of mine were there! I not the most politically active guy but I did send another email to both my senators yesterday letting them know my feelings on the pending legislation.

Tom Coburn (Okla.)

I'm speechless. I had heard 'rumors' he might cross the line. I'm saddened and shocked he's done so.

I guess he's chose retirement over staying any long on 'The Hill'.

Interesting. Burr had said he would support the filibuster.

I was sorry to see one of MY Senators on that list...

by Boge Quinn, Thursday, April 11, 2013, 16:01 (4189 days ago) @ mcassill

...I emailed him yesterday, and got a form reply that he deeply cares what I think, yada yada. I just emailed him the following"

Dear Senator Corker,

It has been reported that you voted today with Senators Feinstein, Schumer, Reid, and others to allow a vote to advance Obama's Gun Control bill. I am very disappointed in this; no, I am ANGRY about it, and I will not forget it. I was at least happy to see that Senator Alexander voted to support our Constitutional rights, as urged by the voters in Tennessee. If the report I saw was in error, I apologize; if not, then YOU should apologize to freedom-loving Americans within and without the borders of our state. I will be closely watching how you vote on final passage.

Boge Quinn

He won't care about that either, but by God I'll MAKE his ass care when he comes up for re-election! I got me a pretty good pulpit.

DAMMIT! BOTH Tennessee Senators!

Bastidges.

And both of Georgia's.

by John K., Thursday, April 11, 2013, 16:24 (4189 days ago) @ Boge Quinn

I'm wondering if this was a face-saving method of killing the filibuster, allowing it to advance, then voting against it later?

I'm looking for fresh water pearls here.

I thought that might be so, too...

by Boge Quinn, Friday, April 12, 2013, 07:49 (4188 days ago) @ John K.

...we'll have to watch and wait. I am not confident in our Tennessee Senators to do what's right; they are both kinda smarmy and politically "adept".

Lamer Alexander had a statement on his facebook page

by stonewalrus, Friday, April 12, 2013, 12:59 (4188 days ago) @ Boge Quinn

As to how this would allow open discussion/debate on the second amendment. Twofaced turncoat if you ask me. You might enjoy reading the responses. It is his government facebook page. He may seriously be backpedaling at the moment.

DAMMIT! BOTH Tennessee Senators!

I just blasted both of them on facebook as traitors to all we hold dear in Tennessee.

I somehow got signed up for Coats' notes and reciever this recently:

Protecting the Second Amendment

Another issue I have heard about from many Hoosiers is gun ownership. Legislation affecting existing gun laws currently is being negotiated in Congress, and I will carefully review the details of any bill that comes before the full Senate.

This week I joined with a group of senators in writing to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to express our support for the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. Our letter, led by Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), expresses that we will oppose any legislation that would infringe on the constitutional right to bear arms. The full text of our letter to Reid is below:

Dear Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid,

We, the undersigned, intend to oppose any legislation that would infringe on the American people’s constitutional right to bear arms, or on their ability to exercise this right without being subjected to government surveillance.

The Second Amendment to the Constitution protects citizens’ right to self-defense. It speaks to history’s lesson that government cannot be in all places at all times, and history’s warning about the oppression of a government that tries.

We will oppose the motion to proceed to any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions.

NRA

by JLF @, Thursday, April 11, 2013, 22:48 (4189 days ago) @ mcassill

Here is the NRA's press release. Let's see all that courage now...

"We hope the Senate will replace the current provisions of S. 649 with language that is properly focused on addressing mental health inadequacies; prosecuting violent criminals; and keeping our kids safe in their schools. Should it fail to do so, the NRA will make an exception to our standard policy of not “scoring” procedural votes and strongly oppose a cloture motion to move to final passage of S. 649."

The problem with the "background check" thing is they will put provisions in them that gets your name on the list if you threatened to get even with a bully that beat you up when you are six years old on a playground at school. There are a lot of other things like if someone in public off doesn't like you and puts your name on the list. The backgound check currently in place is all they need and they are already abusing it. I say we stand together for no new gun legislation and let them enforce the laws they already have. How dare them abuse my rights because they are too dumb to figure how to do what they want within the constitution or too lame to use the laws they have now. In 1967 They were saying they need legislation "to prevent this from ever happening again", and here they are again for the umpatheenth time. This is all socialist in the democratic party i.e. Social Democrates, remember how they fixed Germany in the past?
