A pointer for the young woman....

by Byron, Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 12:23 (4204 days ago) @ photobj

She is holding the AR7 like many inexperienced shooters with her cheek to the rear of the stock and as such will never be able to truely get a good sight picture....

Remember...nose to the cocking handle!

Great pictures....

A quick question...the AR7 have had their up and downs through the years...what vintage is this camo one and how is it working out?

Byron

The AR7 is my son's. He bought it new last fall.

by stonewalrus, Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 14:02 (4204 days ago) @ Byron

He has been very pleased with it and it is not finicky about ammo. We haven't tried to benchrest it but it seems reasonably accurate for what it is. I don't like the sights - big firesight front and coarse peep but if you put an optic on it you defeat the purpose. He does much better with it with his young eyes than I do with my vintage ones (I'm also a lefty and the action doesn't sit in the middle of the stock, annoying for me).

Having seen Carlyn shoot a few times..

by mcassill, Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 20:19 (4204 days ago) @ Byron

I don't think "sight picture" is much of w problem for her.

she was being very careful

by bj2, Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 20:34 (4204 days ago) @ Byron

After shooting the #3 in .45-70 and a .338 Ruger earlier in the day, she was careful to keep her head back on the stock. She has fired almost every heavy handgun caliber available in a revolver, but she has less experience with heavy recoiling rifles. She got scope bite last year from a Contender carbine in .35 Remington so I warned her this year to be more careful.

She's pretty handy with a Thompson or Slide Fire AR...

Son Matthew's highlight this year was probably Hoot's 458

by stonewalrus, Thursday, March 28, 2013, 05:55 (4203 days ago) @ bj2

Magnum. It was on my bucket list too - thanks Hoot! Of course having a very attractive young lady shoot his AR7 didn't hurt his feelings any either.

My pleasure for you both.

We can continue the 'safari theme' in the coming years. What'll it be next? .375H&H? .416 Rigby? .450/400 Nitro? ;-)

Seriously, if you ever do want, just holler and we'll make it happen.

If I remember correctly...

I've seen her shoot a Barrett 50 BMG when she was a lot younger:)

Very nice photos, thanks for sharing!

Looks like y'all FINALLY got Bill Snow to talk!...

...glad y'all brought him out of his shell. Wish I'd been there to see it.

bj, thanks for photo's.

Now and then I really enjoy pulling up all of my CSA photo's. It's never failed to bring a smile to my face.

I really want to thank you for the photo of me. I'd forgotten you'd taken it until I saw it. For most of my adult life, I've always been behind the camera at family get together's, hunting camp...etc. So the few of me doing something I love doing are a treat to have.

P.S. I've always been told I have 'ham sized hands'. That N frame looks more like a K frame in my mitt's. Or was it the angle?

Thanks,

Murphy

I saw a fellow shooting what I think is a Ruger #3;

by BobM, Ohio, Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 19:56 (4204 days ago) @ photobj

anyone have any info on the rifle? I very rarely see or hear about those. My grandpa had one in .22 Hornet he restocked himself and I wish I knew where it went.

That one is Jared's in 45/70

by mcassill, Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 20:21 (4204 days ago) @ BobM

It is a nice one.

Yeah it is a #3 in .45-70 like Mark said, made in 1976. Very little wear. I haven't shot it a whole lot, mainly been playing with cast bullets in the 1000-1300 range. I picked it up a few months ago. Been looking for a nice example for years and the price keeps going up. I would love to find one in .22 hornet, but most are out of my price range.

Thanks gentlemen.

I don't know that I've seen one for sale for years.

You ruined some of those pics by having my ugly mug in them, but thanks for posting pics. I don't know if Marty took any pics, but if she did I'll post them up.
