shell ejection on mini 14 question

Rob Leahy can attest to the fact that my mini 14 throws brass around 15 - 18 feet. That is twice the distance of the only other mini I am familiar with. It also scatters them. Is this something I need to check into trying to fix? I have only had it since November and probably have run around 100 rounds through it.

Actually that was more like 25-30 feet. My first guess is that you need a stronger recoil spring in it. You might take it down and check to see if there are any indications of bolt impact inside the receiver during cycling. I would definitely think about putting a recoil buffer in it.

Recoil and muzzle blast seemed a lot greater than mine also, BUT mine has a flash hider and that no doubt makes a difference. Did seem more pronounced than the ARs that were being fired.

Is notorious for slinging brass and you are firing lead in one direction and brass at 90 degrees to that. Has a larger gas port hole.

One of the most popular mods is the addition of an adjustable gas block. I had a 6.8 Ranch Rifle that would put a serious knot on your head if sitting to the right of the ejection port. I don't think it will hurt anything but an adjustable gas block might make chasing brass less irritating. After that 6.8, one of the things I love about my AR is a good strap on brass catcher:)
