CSA attendees re. Federal 45 Auto small primer pocket brass

To all you folks planning on being in Clarksville in a couple of weeks, I have an offer.

Many folks buy Federal's Champion 45 Auto ammunition, and discover that it has small primer pockets.
This can create a real problem if they get mixed in with regular 45 Auto brass.

If any of you have some of this 45 brass with small primer pockets, I would like to propose a trade. I will trade my large primer pocket brass for your small primer brass.

Unfortunately all my 45 brass is mixed headstamp, as my organization went out the window when a helpful nephew dumped all my sorted brass together putting it in the tumbler to clean. Since then I've been loading and shooting it as mixed, and so far I really haven't seen a difference. Most likely it's my lack of shooting skills, but it doesn't seem to matter.

Due to this being mixed headstamp brass, I'll offer the trade at 3/2. 3 large primer for 2 small primer.
E-mail me if you are interested so I know how much 45 Auto brass to bring.

Mark

Mark, do you find a benefit to the small primer pockets or is it just a convenience thing. So far I've only found one box of CCI Blazer with small pockets. I may have more but the current ones I'm going through are large so I'm not sure when I picked up that box...and not sure which way they are currently manufactured. I figure I'll just separate them when I find them and set them aside. Someday they may come in handy if I can't get my hands on large primers.

Rob,
I am not the OP Mark but I have a comment. I have had good luck with Small pistol Primer 45 brass. While I don't have a lot of it, accuracy seemed to be minimally improved when I used it in one of my two 1911's. In the other 1911, accuracy was unchanged but groups from that gun are usually larger. This testing was not exhaustive but complete for the components that I usually use and have on hand (W321 powder, Winchester primers, and two styles of cast 200 grain SWC). I do have another use for the brass. Because I don't have many cases and I shoot an occasional lost brass match, I have some small pistol primer 45 brass loaded for those matches. It just makes me feel a little better to know that person who gets my spent brass will have to sort it.

Love that last sentence:)

Actually, the reason I am looking to do this is so I can load 45 Auto on my Dillon XL650. It is set up for small primers and I can't seem to find the large primer setup that should have come with it. I bought the XL650 used and don't recall seeing large primer machine parts. I know Dillon will sell the parts I would need, but it looks like more trouble than it's worth to change it to large primer when over 90% of what I will load on it is small primer. So it's just a convenience thing not anything else for me.

I have 400+ of the small primer 45 brass and figure if I can get more it will make it worthwhile to do it this way.

I ask this only because it negates shipping to do a face to face swap.

That makes sense. I will look through my stuff and see

If any of the SO brass has small primers...I have a 650 and keep it set up for small primers and probably won't switch back because it is such a PITA.

I'll be bringing a couple of Folger's plastic coffee cans full of large primer 45 brass to CSA, just in case. We are driving my F-150 instead of momma's car so there is lots of room!

That makes good sense to me...

Mark, I've got about 1k of the SP cases. If you want to swap via mail, one for one with you paying shipping will work for me. BTW, its all sized and cleaned.

E-mail sent.
