In addition to Skeeter's good humor...
His writing frequently expressed his warmth as a person.
Skeeter could certainly be serious, but regardless of the strain imposed by circumstance, he never showed the slightest hint of having a chip on his shoulder about anything.
Whether that was really true, I can't say, but it is something to emulate.
Or at least admire.
