I saw 3 new guns today

I was in the local Fred Meyer store today and decided to check out the gun counter in sporting goods. They're well stocked with semi autos, and double and single action revolvers but I found 3 to be particularly interesting.

The first one to catch my eye was the Ruger SR 1911. I asked to see it and it's a good looking 1911, especially since it doesn't have the billboard on the side of the slide. It has Novak sights, wood grips and is a good looking 1911. It also seems that they've taken some pains to give it a little softer edges. They had it for $649.00 or something close to that. If this one is as reliable and accurate as other Ruger semi autos, it's definitely a winner. If I were in the market for a new 1911, I'd give this one some serious consideration.

The next one was the new Ruger SP101 in 357 Mag with the 4" barrel and adjustable sights. It took a second or two to dawn on me that this was one of the new ones. This one would make an excellent hiking/camping/packing revolver if a 357 is enough meet your needs. The standard one of these always felt a little on the heavy side to me, but this 4" gun in a belt holster would be trim, handy and light. It's a 5 shot revolver, and like the SR 1911, the side of the barrel was uncluttered with safety warnings. Price on the tag was about $549.00. He did say that he's had 4 of the 22 versions of this gun on order for a while, but no luck on getting one of those so far.

The last one was the S&W Governor. Taurus came up with the concept and developed the market, but Smith & Wesson has taken it many steps closer to perfection. In addition to being a 6 shot, it will also handle 45 ACP with moon clips. The alloy frame gave it a good weight, and the fixed sights are easy to see. The counter guy told me that his example has been accurate with 45 ACP and 45 Colt handloads. He also told me that he worked at the gun counter at the old location and was able to order about anything he wanted, but corporate headquarters limit what he can order now. He's been selling guns for the last 25 or 30 years. This one was also priced at $649.00. I had to compliment the man on his ability to order interesting handguns. It was a good way to spend 20 minutes or so.

If your gun store does not have the SR1911 yet they have a

lousy sales rep or a lousy distributor. I like the new 4" SP101s both good trail guns and a nice set of guns to have.
I don't find any of the 410 pistols interesting, but S&W certainly has made the best version of the shot pistol.
My 45 Colt/45ACP Mountian Gun is far more compact and pleasing to me.

The .45 ACP MG is one of the nicest revolvers around. It will easily shoot cheap bulk cast 255 grain SWCs at 1000 fps with truly fine accuracy...probably all the power needed by anyone...short of shooting bears...

I carry mine in a ElPaso "tanker" style chest holster....handy and out of the way...driving...cutting wood...comfortable enough you can take a nap wearing it....I take lots of naps...

Everyone should have one....

May I ask what powder and load or load range? Seems like the 22,000 psi of the ACP is what these hard bullets need to bump up good. Never had good luck with this style of commercial bullet in the 45 Colt at standard loads, but with a ACP cylinder looks like it will work for me.

.45 Super loads........

Without going back into the files I can't remember the exact load but have had good results with both PowerPistol and Blue Dot.

Truthfully, I just started with the low end .45 Super loads and just started dribbling in powder until I hit 1000 fps and stopped. It is still under the Super spec for this bullet weigt, however, I am not using Super brass. This ammo would not be a good choice for a autopistol with unsupported web but works perfect in the tight revolver chamber. In full moon clips all six fired cases will either drop free from the cylinder or need just a gentle boost from the ejector rod.

.45 Super cases

Byron,
I bought a bunch (500 or 1000) new starline cases from
A guy who was liquidating a neighbors estate. I was told they were the same incapacity as a standard acp case. If you'd like some, I'd gladly trade for some similar acp cases.

You know, that mixed cylinder concept is creeping up on me

I need to write an article on combo caliber guns45 Colt/ACP

being one of my favorite. But .22LR/mag is great as well as my 40 S&W to 9mm conversion on Gurks a friend used a Wolf .40 S&W barrel in his G-20 for his 500 rounds of Gunsite 250 class.
I even have a .17 & .22 caliber switch barrel pellet rifle.
My everyday favorite is 38 spl in 357 mag and 44 spls in 44 mag guns versatility!
