Cast in an AR

Wondering if it is possible to shoot cast in the AR platform, or does it jack up the gas system? Have seen some lower velocity loads with cast and Unique.

That is a good question. We used to shoot the Atkinson

conversion for .22 LR. Ammo was, RN lead military issue. I've seen some guns go through 5000 rounds in a couple of days, then, about 1 month later the same gun would be on the range firing standard 5.56 ball ammo without a hitch. Does that mean anything. Certainly the lube would be different but lube would be blown down the tube to the carrier key. I had this experience and I still don't know.

300BLK works fine. Never tried 5.56.

I really like the 300BLK, btw, and the main reason I bought it was to be able to form cases from 5.56 and shoot my own cast bullets in an AR. Recent events explain why.

Just looking for options

I have rifles that have never seen jacketed, but none of them are gas operated.

John, I didn't know you we're a .300 blk shooter! I built an AR when barrels were first coming out. Mine is a 16" with a pistol has system that is just itching to be SBR'ed to 8"! It has worked pretty well with everything from 125's to some cast 240's. I shot some traditional gas checked bullets in the 220 range but I've switched over to the mold lee made for AAC. It's a tumble lube that mimics the SMK shape and feed great in my AR. I've also got a Stevens boltgun I rebarreled with a 16" tube available from a local wildcatter. With my SAS can and subsonic handloads it's barely louder than my suppressed .22 boltgun! I was making hits on propane cylinders out at 350 yards last October at Cannon's place. Pooht......THUNK!!

John, a couple of questions

Which cast design are you using? And have you had any luck getting them to cycle the rifle unsuppressed? (Class 3 goodies of any kind are a no-no in my state)
