I think he means that the rifle has a relatively short length of pull. So does an M1 Garand for that matter. They are about an inch to 1-1/4 inch shorter than most commercial hunting rifles I have.

I have not measured the LOP any other WWII battle rifles, but from memory, I think they may have relatively short LOP's too. Must be so even small soldiers can shoot them. It is a lot easier for a tall soldier to adapt to a short LOP than a short soldier to adapt to a long LOP.
