Gun lobbyist ready to give up Alan Korwin Page Nine

A gun lobbyist, traumatized by the evil in Newton, Conn., under pressure by reporters for an interview, asked me desperately for help. What is he supposed to say? How can he respond to such slaughter, how can he defend guns in the light of this massacre? He is at his wit's end, ready to give up, throw in the towel. Help me please, he implores. What can he say in the face of such an abomination? There are no words. And there aren't any.

Why does the media only cover guns in the face of such tragedy? Why don't they discuss it when we can examine the subject coolly and rationally, and maybe get somewhere?

Because then we might learn something. Because then the public could become educated, and the media does not really want this to happen. Because then you might learn that guns have social utility, and are indispensable -- thatguns serve good purposes -- instead of being pounded with the hopelessly false idea that arms are bad...

Immediately makes the argument about controlling the known violent mentally ill.

Any redirect by the other side back to guns is always turned back to the question of identifying and controlling the nuts and using the examples of Tucson, Aurora and other incidents where the shooter was a nut that had already been under some level of psychiatric care.

Maybe use the China example where the man used

a knife to kill a bunch of children - anything can be used as an instrument of death. Hard though because the media will not stop until they get an answer they like - truth or not. I am sad to see/hear of firearms supporters wavering.

There are reports that one of the teachers put the kids in a closet and then was a "human shield". MY question is - why should she have been forced to die in front of them instead of protecting them by return fire? Why are we STILL insisting on "no guns allowed" instead of insisting that there be competently trained personnel capable of halting such abominable attacks?

We have no reason to be defensive, it's time to go on the offensive. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, THIS HAPPENED IN CONNECTICUT - WITH VERY STRICT GUN CONTROL LAWS INCLUDING AN "ASSAULT RIFLE BAN". It's time to throw the ball into THEIR court and ask "When are you going to quit insisting that our children be slaughtered defenselessly? "

When will someone with a voice say "HOW DARE YOU!"

How dare you blame innocent law abiding citizen for the failings of politicians to fund mental health care. The cost of implimenting gun control measures since 1968 could have easily paid for all the mental health care needed. Instead socialist politicians try to use the acts of untreated mentally ill people to further their attack on the second ammendment. Untold millions upon millions are wasted on perks for politicians and their pork barrel projects but when the results of their failing become apparent they use the media to blame the rest of us. HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!

and we've made schools absolutely defenseless - not even
