Too much effort involved to suit my tastes.

Squirrel hunting is fairly new for me, having only started in '98. My first hunt was with my Dad's 3" S&W 317, 22 l.r., which I bagged 3 black squirrels in a half hour with. Have been hooked ever since. Have killed well over 100 with a 22 Combat Masterpiece, nearly all head shots. Killed one earlier this fall while out deer scouting with a 2 1/2" S&W M19. Have hunted quite a bit with a Contender as well.

We also enjoy CAS style rifles and have used 25, 32, 38 and 44 WCFs for hunting them with Marlin and Winchester levers, an original Colt Lightning pump, and a Remington Mod 25 pump. There is a special thrill for me in using competition small-bore rifles as well. They may be a bit heavy, but are very sure on even the most difficult to hit bushytail.

won't eat 'em all. Using more challenging methods of hunting and doing the hunting at my pace and in my own time helps to limit the number killed. Some days turn into a long walk with squirrels sighted on but not killed and no work or clean up at the end.

Some gun shows (like today's) are the same. It is more in the going and seeing old friends than in the acquisition of a long-sought after firearm. It helps that I'm positively tight with a dollar now, too.
