mid range priced 22 rifle scope?
by stonewalrus, Thursday, November 29, 2012, 14:46 (4379 days ago)
I was blessed with a Ruger 1022 for my. Birthday. Right now it is wearing a red dot since the compact scope I had didn't have enough eye relief. I'd eventually likr to pick up a decent scope for it for under $100. It's obviously not a target gun and I don't want a massive scope on the little fella either. Any suggestions?
It probably isn't quite under $100 but I like the Weaver 2½

Unfortunately you'd have to find NOS or a used one. Darn people couldn't sell them and they aren't in production anymore. I suppose that is no help at all. Personally, I don't like the $39.95 Tasco/BSA stuff and you don't want to spend more. Weaver does still make the 1-3X variable.

I'm not too picky on a plinker but it HAS to be a 1" tube

None of that 3/4" $15 junk! I will never buy another 3/4 " tube scope.
Check out a Nikon Prostaff....

I have a few 2-7 power on a couple of my .22's. A little under $100 last time I bought one. Probably gone up some. Good scope for the money nice and compact. I have one on my 10-22 that is my constant companion in the truck/woods.
Check out a Nikon Prostaff.... they are a bit above $100

but a lifetime warranty. I've considered using one as well but don't need a scope at the moment.
The Weavers are 1" tubes.

What's on your .30-06?

IIRC, it was an old Bushnell Scopechief. That's really a .22 scope and a darn good one. Might be time to upgrade yer '06 with a Leupold and switch the Bushie to the 10/22.
It was a Bushnell Sportview but it now wears

A Nikon Monarch. The Sportview is a decent scope but it's just so big on that 1022.
How about $42.49?

I've used one of these for a few years without any issues.

.22 Rimfire. Weaver has a "rimfire" scope as well but I think it is twice the price.

I bought into one of the Burris combo-deals

Buy their Fullfield II 3-9 and they throw in binoculars, GPS, spotting scope or a 3-9 Rimfire scope. I mounted it on a Ruger M77/22Mag and have been very pleased with it other than the "Made in China" bit.
Like Drago mentioned, the Simmons 22MAG is a scope out of proportion to its' price. I have one mounted on a 10/22 and it's been just fine.
Also, Happy Birthday!
