Options for refinishing Ruger grip frame

by woody, Tuesday, November 06, 2012, 05:51 (4402 days ago)

I'm going to have Turnbull's color case and blue my OM flat top but wasn't sure what to do with the grip frame. A local place can do ceracoat. I was thinking of having it done in that? They do work for Remington in a ceracoat finish that looks good. Thanks.

Options for refinishing Ruger grip frame

If it is a steel grip frame blue it.

If it is a aluminum grip frame polish it, or replaced it with a blue one.

I thought about polishing it up. I have done that in the past but I wanted a blued look.

Your various baked on gun finishes would look bad on a Turnbull finished revolver. If you can't go high polished aluminum go with a steel frame.

The Ruger Old Army frame will fit and work. The trigger slot is a mite too wide, but a brass plate fitted to the inside of the grip frame, with a slot in it for the trigger will cure that.

Isn't that an option over paint type coatings?

Have you asked Turnbull what they recommend?

Yes I was there yesterday. They don't do anything with aluminum grip frames.

Fit a steel frame and polish and blue to match the other blue parts...

I have had Ruger cased by him with a polished aluminum grip frame...didn't like it and sent it back to by fitted with a steel one....

This .41 Magnum is a nice gun with the exception of the worthless caliber...

I might agree to pay half the shipping costs to take that worthless caliber revolver off your hands, if you asked nicely. ;-)

Right. Worthless. I would hang my head in shame if I had such a weapon as that. Just send it my way and I will save you the embarrassment of .41 ownership.

...convertible to Birdsong for their "Black-T" finish. He recommended it for nice appearance and durability, and I have been very pleased with it.

Late to the party, but another view on 'polish'...
