Welp, there it is. One loaded round. (reply)

I put up one round of .250 Savage using the Sierra 90-grain HP.

I figured Ken Waters would have some suitable load data in his "Pet Loads," and as it turns out I was right. I saw that 31.0 grains of IMR-3031 was the most accurate load he listed for this bullet, so that's what I put up. OAL is the recommended 2.50 inches.

Interesting to me that this cartridge uses exactly the same weight of the same powder as the classic load for .30-30 Winchester.

It is perfectly reasonable... (reply)

to load up a batch of "function testing loads" in the midrange of the appropriate load chosen. This allows one to function test the eventually acquired rifle properly prior to dialing in the appropriate OAL for throat fit, etc once the rifle is acquired.

There's an order to these things. (reply)

I have the 90-grain Sierra quarter-bore bullets on order and they should arrive today.

At present I am resisting the urge to load up a bunch of .250 Savage ammo... I can't shoot it. I don't have the rifle yet.

I. DO. NOT. NEED. IT.

Besides which, I still have a bunch of empty .30-30 and .30-06 brass to load.

Will that stop me from putting up 20 rounds of .250 Savage handloads? I doubt it.

Hoot, I'm using your dies.

I don't own a .250 Savage rifle yet, but God help me I've got your dies out and I'm full-length resizing and decapping all my brass.

Thank you for the dies.
