And if it doesn’t, I will get the one I have in the mail to you. It has been in a closet for a while and there are a few buggers where something fell on it, but it does have some nice figure on the right side, so there’s that.

incorrect forearm but it looks appropriately scruffy, if a bit lighter. I can darken it hopefully. Entry fee wasn't terribly bad.

Today, I disassembled the front end and hit the wood first with mineral spirits to clean up any grunge and then with one light coat of BLO. It looks pretty decent; certainly not as dull. When the other wood gets here, I'll see what I can do to match it up. Fingers crossed!

The shiny and the pad are what's pushing me to replace. (reply)

I'll probably tear into it a bit more one day. Hint: It's Project #38,471.

Funny thing is I picked up 2 butts at shows in the past. Got about $35 into the pair. One has some damage to the inletting (but was $5) and the other is cut short. Oh well, something for my heirs to wonder at!

Looking at the pic and your (and Paul's) comments, I might take some 0000 steel wool soaked in acetone to that buttstock and see if I could get a match to the foreend.

Is it a rifle - 26 inch barrel? The foreend cap is what is throwing me off. Finish may be Gun Kote - John would know.

It appears to me, at a distance of several thousand miles and only one image on a sub par monitor, that a good strip down to remove the finish before working over both forestock and buttstock with fine steel wool would give you a fairly decent looking setup. But then there's the recoil pad. Why a recoil pad on a 30 WCF?

The 'shininess' of the butt is in the shade and didn't really come through. I haven't touched the forearm and should probably hit it with some BLO but I kinda dig the 'Parked' finish with the beat up wood.

Thanks Doug. (reply)

I inherited a '94 from my Dad (which is odd as he didn't really like levers) that is a real mongrel. The forearm is old and dull like millions of old '94's. The butt has been finished with something shiny. The metal has what is probably from a 'finish-in-a-can' that looks like dark grey Parkerizing. The metal and forearm look good together and I'd like the butt to match up as much as I can.

I have it out for a picture later today. I'll post it for your "pleasure".

I prefer the finish to be "distressed" as in, just short of drug behind a car look to it. Trying to match the forearm and overall "patina" of the rifle. It's a pre-'64 but I don't think that matters. Any leads are greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
