Corazon was Tio Carlos' horse. It was said to be a prize-winning thoroughbred gelding. But Corazon had other things on his mind besides circling the track. Apparently he wasn't quite as gelt as was supposed. Anyways, he didn't like gringos anymore than I liked horses. Add to that that Corazon was no polyglotal linguist. "Whoa !" meant nothing to him and the jockey's tack was only good for accelerating and no good for braking.

Tio Carlos and Primo Juan set me up for the wreck. "Have another punchie sobrino," they said as the ladle kept dipping out of the cask into a pitcher of mixed fruit. There was no alcohol taste and my throat was dusty. In fullness of time my turn neared for a spin about on the horse just I began to feel two and a half metres tall and one and three quarters wide. Despite my bad back and hernia, I picked up my substantial bride and tossed her in the air before hopping onto the horse's back.

Like I may have already mentioned, corazon's command of english was scant and he knew just where the clothesline wire hung. The rest is history. There maybe worse things than full body plaster and titanium internal splints but I haven't experienced them as yet.

As we were boarding an aluminum condor for santiago, asuncion, miami then atlanta I showed my appreciation to my in-law host/hostess by gingerly taking Tia Lupe's ever present cigarette from her lips and dousing it into the bottle of her orange fanta. The appellation I used re. she I am embarrassed to admit and I have only used it once or twice since in reference to first lady numero 42.
