Sounds great! We have been thinking about doing much the same. Nearby shooting is also a requirement. Unfortunately, we are pretty firmly entrenched where we are so it will be sloooowwww.

Where are you moving to? (reply)

We will be in Bandon, Oregon, on the coast.

From here to Eagle Point is just over three hours. I will be busier than usual, but you are welcome to stop by. Or maybe we can meet up halfway in Roseburg. Actually, just outside Roseburg, on the way to Bandon, is a small town called Winston. Nothing remarkable there except for an old school hamburger place called Johnnys. Excellent burger and sandwiches, a good place to get together.

In case it isn’t obvious, I am always looking for a reason to visit Johnnys!

Lunch is my treat….

Had some very welcome news….

….as some of you know, we are moving to the Oregon coast very soon (April or May depending on when all the paperwork is completed, long closing requested by the seller).

We’ve been planning this move for several years and we thought that we would be building a house. Long story short, the permitting process became such a nightmare we finally chose to stop fighting the powers that be and simply buy a house.

We found a wonderful place last week, in a nice part of town. Put a deposit on it, and are waiting to move. Couldn’t have asked for a more suitable home, really.

Through all of this, my one regret about moving to the area was that there is only a shotgun range in town. They allow small caliber handguns there, whatever that means, but no big-bores, no rifles, etc.

I believed that I would have to drive into Coos Bay or Roseburg to shoot my rifles, 35 minutes or 90 minutes respectively.

Come to find out that there is a range just outside of town where you can shoot whatever you like, out to 150 yards. Reasonable rates, and soon to be extended to 300 yards, so I will be able to play 200 yard ASSRA games with my single-shot rifles.

Then I was told about an area a bit further out, where you can shoot out to 1800 yards on public land! No benches, no range officer, and hopefully no idiots. For the type of shooting I enjoy these days, I will likely stick with the controlled range but the mere fact that I have an option within 10 minutes or so of the new house is just great news. A huge part of my retirement plans centered around shooting a lot, and now I can do so easily!
