A film of fine graphite (reply)

Seems to me that once I've run a box of my Unique reloads (6.0 grains of Unique under a 200-grain cast SWC in .45 ACP) through my Smith 1955 Target, both the revolver and my hands got this sooty kind of graphite film all over them. Sometimes it's enough to make the cylinder drag.

I don't mind so much. The Unique works and I trust it.

Apparently my nasal abilities are quite diminished .. (reply)

I have shot Unique for more than 60 years and never noticed that!
Of course, I have never been bothered nasalie by black powder either .....

Unique also has a distinct, and slightly yucky aroma. (reply)

Not like black, but still...

Shoot a bunch over 8.5 Unique/255 cast lubed with (also odd smelling) Alox, and on a hot humid day, the memory will stay with you.

I never understood what "dirty Unique" was all about. (reply)

Dependable Unique (reply)

I find myself coming back to Unique again and again in pistol calibers (not that I'm any authority, mind you).

It's just that, it's a known quantity, and though it's dirty it can be depended on to get it done.

If I had to do all my reloading with just three powders, Unique would be one of them.

Shooting the .45 Linebaugh Ruger Today

Spent a little time on the Range testing a load with Green Dot. Using SSK 270-451 over 6.5 gr. of Green Dot. It was a little light, hitting about 4" high at 25 yards. I am gonna add one more grain of powder and see if that helps.
