50yds or so. Although, I have not shot them much past half that distance. DEWC's can be loaded, within reason, to a number of different levels. HBWC's, on the other hand need to be kept in the 7-800fps range lest you separate the body from the 'skirt'...which would do bad things to your barrel. I should think the classic '2.7gr Bullseye/148gr WC (either design)' should be great fun out of a shoulder mounted arm. Easy on the powder, brass and shoulder but still considerably more 'whack-em' than, say, a .22LR.

Sorta funny, but I keep that shorty levergun handy in the shop -- unloaded -- and always double checked for "empty' - as my fave snap and shoot dry fire gun. Well lubed since Mr Aveni sent it my way, and getting smoother all the time. Definitely thinking about 'sights', but the bead picks up fine enough for minute of an 'OWIE!!" use, for now.. Receiver sight and post/bead well worth installing. .38 Specs do just fine. I could see this as wintertime indoor basement gallery gun with a wadcutter and 'poof' load.

Yup, anyway, do concur with the assembled about it's handi-neato factor.

It's a good thing we're done having kids or I'd be trying to talk you out of that one too!

For those who don't know, Byron has armed both of my sons nicely with a pair of Marlin 1894's in .357 magnum.

That's a great looking Rossi, and with a professionals touch, really should be something special!

My Rossi 1892 is one of my longest owned firearms, and one of my favorites. It's been slicked up after thousands of rounds and several readings of Jim T's articles. I recently had it chopped to 18" and threaded for my 9mm suppressor as well as for with an XS rear peep sight. It was a keeper before and is even more liked now!

Remember that old Rossi Three Five Seven that had turned purple and you tricked me into paying too much for?

It was a long barrel rifle that just didn't feel right and always shot a foot high even with the rear sight all the way down. The butt plate stuck out about .125" all around and the other wood to metal fit was Rossi casual.

No bueno!

I sent it to Regan Nonneman for an overhaul, reblue and chop job. Came back last week and its a beauty.

Barrel and tube cut to 16.25". All wood to metal fit tuned up and a nice reblue. He fitted a Lyman micrometer peep and fiber optic front on my request.

At 50 yards off my deck it took about 10 rounds to get it perfectly sighted in and easily would throw 3 rounds into a clover leaf and 5 shots where all holes would touch. The load is a bulk 158 gr jacketed hollow point and case full of H110.

Have had a number of .357 carbines through here over the years and always sent them down the river even though I knew that everyone needs at least one.

This one will stick around.
